Sonic Adventure Pose referrers to the Pose the character Sonic makes on the Cover of the 1998 Sonic the Hedgehog video game Sonic Adventure. This pose has frequently been parodied in fanart with other characters.

Origin

Sonic Adventure was released December 23rd, 1998 for the Dreamcast.[1] Sonic does the pose on the cover (shown below).

In 2011's Sonic Generations, the post was included as an easter egg for fans of the Dreamcast game[2] (shown below).

The practice of depicting other characters doing the pose began spreading in 2016. One particularly popular early example appeared on Tumblr in the summer of 2016, drawn by user robbonp in response to the question "what if Mario was extremely egotistical and Sonic was more modest?"[3] The same user then posted an image of Mario doing the Sonic Adventure pose (shown below).


Art depicting various characters in the pose continued to be posted over the following two years. Some other popular examples include a piece tweeted by Twitter user Kaigetsudo on August 23rd, 2016, which depicted Overwatch character D.Va doing the pose, gaining over 4,400 retweets and 8,900 likes (shown below, left). Another popular edit posted by Tumblr user Kappaengineer on January 20th, 2018 depicting Simpsons character Seymour Skinner doing the pose as part of a Steamed Hams meme gained over 11,000 notes (shown below, right).
