About
Sonic Underground Theme Song is an exploitable meme from the 1999 cartoon series Sonic Underground. The meme pairs the show's opening music with different images meant to humorously represent the song's lyrics.
Origin
Sonic Underground's opening music first appeared on its English language debut in May of 1999 on ITV channel in the United Kingdom.[1] The theme song was later uploaded to YouTube by tv2zebra on June 11th, 2008, where it received over 2.1 million views in over twelve years.
Spread
The theme song was covered on Joel's Vinesauce livestream on June 24th, 2016, during a playthrough of Shadow The Hedgehog. He paused the playthrough to play various gifs from Sonic Underground, including a scene in which a baby hedgehog robot falls to the ground and explodes. Joel then decides to play the show's theme song over the scene, which results in him making the remark "More like six feet underground!" and bursting into laughter (scene shown below).
A clip was made of the livestream and posted to YouTube by Coldest Sub-Zero on August 23rd, 2016, where it received over 50,000 views in nearly six years (shown below).
On December 7th, 2020, YouTube user J H posted a video in which the song's lyrics are pasted over the speech bubbles of various Stonetoss comics. The video (shown below) received over 16,000 views in nearly 1.5 years.
On Feburary 27th, 2022, Tumblr user eggtinker replied to writing-prompt-s's post of "A woman prophesied to give birth to the Chosen One gives birth to triplets instead." with "Sonic underground", which started a comment chain using lyrics to the show's theme song that concluded on April 4th, 2022.[2][3] The thread (shown below) received over 20,000 notes in over three months.
On April 22nd, 2022, YouTube user McGuinnesBook posted a video in which the show's theme song is sung in impersonations of thirty different characters. The video (shown below) received over 25,000 views in three months.
