Spinning Chair Pikachu refers to a short clip of the Pikachu model from the Nintendo 64 spinning in a chair. The clip has been used in bait and switch videos as an unexpected punchline and in various other remix videos.

Origin

On April 26th, 2020, Twitter user @DitzyFlama posted a video remix of Why Do Women Only Like Stupid Jerks with the punchline being a short clip of Pikachu spinning on a chair. The video gained over 12,000 retweets and 43,000 likes (shown below).



A GIF of Pikachu spinning was added to tenor[1] the same day by JaackBS (shown below).

The video inspired YouTuber tomtee to post a blank version of spinning Pikachu the following day, April 27th, 2020 (shown below, left). On April 29th, user A Wild Naterrules posted a video using the spinning Pikachu, gaining over 2,800 views (shown below, right).



Over the following month, the meme grew popular primarily on Twitter. On May 20th, Twitter user @thiefhardt posted an Are Ya Winning, Son? meme with the spinning chair Pikachu, gaining over 32,000 retweets and 117,000 likes (shown below, top). User @tfortalalios posted a remix using a clip from Dexter's Laboratory, gaining over 20 retweets and 90 likes (shown below, bottom).
