About

Steve Rogers Going Through History refers to a series of memes which parody the fact that Marvel character Steve Rogers (Captain America) does not prevent tragic historic events in the past despite being aware of them and imply that he abuses his knowledge for personal gain.

Origin

On April 26th, 2019, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame premiered in the United States.[1] In the film, character Steve Rogers (Captain America), portrayed by Chris Evans, permanently travels back in time to reunite with his loved one Peggy Carter and spend his life with her.

Spread

Online, the implied nuance that Steve Rogers did not interfere with any past tragedies despite his knowledge of them has been parodied, while some memes implied that he would use the information about the future for personal gain.

On May 18th, Facebook user Jessica Grace posted a meme to Marvel Shieldposting group which implied that Steve Rogers would invest in Apple using his knowledge of the company's future success (shown below).[2] The post gained over 10,000 likes in one week. The May 19th and 20th reposts on 9GAG[3] and in /r/thanosdidnothingwrong[4] subreddit gained over 9,100 points and 37,400 upvotes in six and five days, respectively.
