About
Glitch Techs are an animated television series which follows the adventures of teen friends Hector Nieves and Mico Kuboto who battle video game monsters glitching out of their games into the real world. The series premiered on Netflix in February 2020.
History
On May 25th, 2016, animation studio Nickelodeon announced[1] that the company picked up Glitch Techs, "adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world," with the planned 20-series debut in 2018. In January 2019, the production of the series was temporarily halted.[2][3]
On November 26th, 2019, following a multi-year deal between Netflix and Nickelodeon, Glitch Techs appeared on Netflix' "for your consideration" panel.[4] On January 22nd, 2020, Netflix release in February was officially confirmed by Nickelodeon.[5]
On February 7th, 2020, the trailer for the series premiered on YouTube,[6] accumulating over 39,000 views in three weeks (shown below). The first nine episodes of the series premiered on Netflix on February 21st, 2020.[7]
Reception
Following the release, the series received positive reviews from users on Twitter,[8][9][10] with numerous users highlighting that the series managed to avoid being out-of-touch and were on point with its gaming and internet-related jokes (examples shown below).
On IMDb,[11] the series maintained a 7.8 users score with 44 votes as of February 24th, 2020.
Impact
Following the premiere, multiple tweets containing scenes which referenced popular games were posted on Twitter. For example, on February 22nd, 2020, Twitter[12] user @I_Am_Yakiti posted a scene which referenced Castlevania which received over 135,100 views, with the tweet gaining over 2,700 retweets and 12,600 likes in three days (shown below).
