About

Maury is a tabloid talk show hosted by Maury Povich, which is known for its recurring themes involving paternity and lie detector tests.

History

In 1991, the series premiered under the moniker The Maury Povich Show but was renamed Maury in 1995. In 1998, Studios USA took over the show's production. On April 18th, 2007, YouTuber TheRealSpade uploaded the episode to YouTube, garnering upwards of five million views and 39,000 comments in the following seven years.

On October 10th, 2008, Thompson revealed as a guest on the show that she had given birth to her son Javen (shown below, left). In 2010, Thompson and her husband Naul appeared on the show to have a DNA test to determine the paternity of Javen, which was shown to be her husband child (shown below, right).

Chicken Tetrazzini

Chicken Tetrazzini refers to an episode of the Maury show in which a woman claimed her boyfriend had been cheating on her because his mistress made good "chicken tetrazzini."

You Are Not the Father

"You Are NOT The Father!" is a catchphrase popularized by Povich during paternity testing segments, in which a mother appears on the show with a request to prove or disprove that a man is the biological father of her child or children. After hearing each side’s story, Maury sits down with both parties to read the results of a paternity test, at which point he announces whether the male guest is the father or not the father.

Maury Povich Lie Detector

Maury Povich Lie Detector is an advice animal image macro series featuring a screen captured image of Povich with captions presenting various claims as fabrications. The series plays off a recurring theme involving the use of lie detectors on the show.

One summer between years of high school, I didn't have a job or a massive backlog of video games and anime to slowly work my way through, so each day I would get bored and end up watching daytime television.
There were two shows I remember watching a lot: Phantom Gourmet (a food critic show local to New England), and Maury. Every day, at least 2 episodes of Maury.
And EVERY
SINGLE
EPISODE
was about a woman who had cheated on her husband with ~12 guys and was looking for the father. They only test one guy per episode, so guests would return multiple times.
The only thing that kept me watching was when the suitors would dance when they turned out not to be the father. That was hilarious, every time.
