About
Muscle Growth is an internet paraphilia associated with illustrations and animations of characters significantly growing larger in terms of size and muscle mass. Notable examples of muscle growth art often feature characters rapidly growing large, veiny, detailed muscles with a ridiculous amount of musclature. This paraphilia is also commonly associated with macrophilia, transformation, and body inflation.
Origin
The exact origins of the muscle growth on the internet are unclear though it may have stemmed from "sthenolagnia", or "muscle worship", in which two partners admire and touch the other partner's muscles in a sexual manner. A book published in 1992 also states sthenolagnia as the "sexual arousal from displaying strength or muscles."[1]
History
Possibly one of the earliest inspirations for muscle growth art is the comic book franchise "The Incredible Hulk" originally published by Marvel Comics in 1962. [2] The comic involves many characters, two of which are popular and the latter being the most drawn in the muscle growth community, Bruce Banner and Jennifer Walters, both of which are well-known by their aliases, "The Hulk" and "She-Hulk."[3] Both characters are also frequently seen transforming and growing into their alter-egos. (shown below).
Another possible example is the anime series Dragon Ball, in which multiple characters are depicted "powering up" to defeat a stronger opponent and most of the time increasing their muscle mass in the process.
Examples
Muscle growth art is often classed into two major categories by the community, Male Muscle Growth and Female Muscle Growth.
Online Presence
Many examples of this fetish can be found be various websites, including DeviantArt, FurAffinity, Tumblr, and even sites like Twitter, 4chan (prevalent in the /d/ image board), and 8chan.
