About
Futanari, often abbreviated as "futa," is the Japanese word for hermaphroditism, referring to a person born with both male and female genitalia. In anime, the term is often associated with a genre of hentai containing female-looking characters with male sex organs; which has resulted in the characters being given the popular nickname "dickgirls."
Origin
In the 1990s, futanari characters became more prevalent in Japanese anime and manga. In 1993, the manga Hot Tails by Toshiki Yui was released, which has been cited as a popular early example of the futanari genre.[1] In 2006, the earliest known futanari-themed website "Futanari Palace"[2] was launched, which features a discussion forum for "fans of futanari and other specific fetishes."
