Wander Over Yonder is a 2013 American animated Disney comedy television show created by Craig McCracken^[1]. The show's third season was cancelled and aired its second season finale on Disney Channel and Disney XD.

Premise

The show stars the eponymous Wander and his sidekick Sylvia, as they travel across the galaxy lending help to those in need. They often cross paths with Lord Hater, the main recurring antagonist for most of the series, and his second-in-command commander Peepers, both who desire to conquer the galaxy. Wander and Sylvia always foil Lord Hater and save the day amongst other disasters.

History

Wander was first seen in 2007 in sketchbooks, clothes, and patches that Craig McCracken sold at conventions. He was described as a "nomadic, hippie, muppet man". At Comic Con International 2012, McCracken showed a sneak peek of the show, and on July 21st 2013, posted a tweet announcing its arrival to Disney Channel. The first promo of the show aired on July 19th, 2013 of the first episode called "The Picnic", which officially aired two months later. Craig McCracken is well known for being the creator of Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and the Cartoon Network classic The Powerpuff Girls. The show also has Lauren Faust as a co-producer, best known as the creator of the phenomenal flash-animated cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Reception

The show has thus far received very positive reviews from critics, has gained a 7.4 rating on IMDB.com^[2] and has received 2 Annie award nominations. The show has been praised in its effective use of the Toon Boom Harmony software in creating fluid and seemless animation as well as for its endearing humor and slapstick.

Fandom

The show surprisingly gained a huge fan base even before the first episode officially aired. The fandom has a strong presence on Tumblr^[3] as well as 10,959 results based on the show's title in the art-sharing website DeviantArt.^[4] Hundreds of fanfictions have been submitted to Fanfiction.net based on the show.^[5]
