Bill-Ford, Introspective Gaijin

This might be my first buried comment since my return, but fuck it

I think there was more edgy ethnic humour in the 90s and 2000s because racial tensions were slightly lower, not higher

There was this idea (true or not) that racism had mostly been defeated in the first world and as such, people felt more comfortable making these kinds of jokes around each other because we were able to ease up around each other better, we condemned racism but at the same time didnโ€™t see it in every little thing because we werenโ€™t constantly looking for it

Maybe there was some IRL shit going on behind the scenes, no decade was perfect, but you canโ€™t seriously tell me that race relations are all that much better now

The whole โ€œevery decade before the 2010sโ€™ was just the 60sโ€™ with better technologyโ€ idea is one Iโ€™m sure started with good intentions but sometimes I feel like itโ€™s lead to one or two instances of what essentially amounts to a mild degree of, well, historical revisionism (as melodramatic as that might sound)
