This Is Not A Banger refers to a TikTok trend that uses an audio clip of a man saying, "This is not a banger, and I know bangers" to compare superior and inferior versions of various items. The viral video originates from an October 2022 YouTube video by Wayne County Lyfe, with the TikTok trend using the sound and catchphrase gaining traction in late 2023, peaking in December of that year.
Origin
On October 25th, 2022, YouTuber[1] Wayne County Lyfe posted a video titled, "ITS NOT A BANGER. AND I KNOW BANGERS," about the Halloween song "Monster Mash." The clip gathered over 27,000 views in two years (seen below).
The earliest known TikTok edit made using the clip was an October 27th, 2022, post by user @staticfozzy[2] in which he showed off his car. The clip gathered over 29,000 plays and 700 likes in two years (seen below, left). A November 6th, 2023, post by TikToker @grrengoblin[3] is the earliest known viral use of the clip, gathering over 300,000 plays and 15,000 likes in two months (seen below, right).

On December 22nd, 2023, TikToker[4] @victoriyamorgan10 posted the clip with the caption, "The warm-up music that they play in the gym," gathering over 7.7 million views and 1.4 million likes in three weeks (seen below, left). On December 25th, TikToker[5] @regieef posted a version of the meme that read, "6-year-old me when my present was soft," gathering over 6 million plays and 1 million likes in three weeks (seen below, right).
