About
Turboflex Eyeglasses Hammer Ad refers to an online advertisement for Turboflex glasses, a pair of spectacles with notably bendy frames designed to not break even when being stepped on. In a viral durability demonstration posted to TikTok, the company aims to demonstrate the difference between normal glasses and Turboflex glasses by hitting both with a hammer. The normal glasses break while the Turboflex glasses survive. However, users noted that the hammer test on the Turboflex glasses seemed to be much softer, leading to parodies in 2022 where users destroy one object in a fake "test" but perform a similar, much softer version of the test on another object.
Origin
At some point prior to July 31st, 2022, the TikTok account Turboflex360 uploaded an advertisement designed to show how Turboflex glasses would not break upon being hit with a hammer, unlike normal glasses. It appears the TikTok was deleted but was reposted on August 16th, 2022, to the YouTube channel MWD Archives,[1] where it gained over 1.3 million views in three months (shown below).
Spread
The TikTok quickly inspired parodies in which a user does a "test" to clearly destroy one object but performs a similar, softer test with another object, dubbing it the "Turboflex" version of the object. For example, on July 31st, 2022, TikToker @xd_lolzzzz posted a parody in which they perform the "tests" on a speaker, though it only gained 113 likes in five months (shown below, left). On August 18th, TikToker @poopypants8741 then posted a parody in which he throws one computer monitor down the stairs, destroying it, but then does a "Turboflex" test on a second monitor that consisted of lightly jostling it. The TikTok gained over 17 million views in four months (shown below, right).

Following the parodies, on October 13th, 2022, Turboflex redid the test, this time hitting the Turboflex glasses with an equivalent amount of force. The glasses did bounce around but did not break. The TikTok gained over 13 million views in two months (shown below).
