About

Ur a Faget is a bastardized form of "You're a Faggot", a highly common insult used online towards another poster's belief or behavior. The phrase first became popular when it was used in a MS Paint comic featuring the main characters from the video game Devil May Cry 3, and has since been used in exploitable images with the viewer looking disgruntled, in a similar vain as Dick Butt.

Origin

The first archived instance of the original comic dates back to December 17th, 2007, when an anonymous 4chan user managed to get a 9,000,000 GET[1] (a post with a significant post number) on 4chan's /v/ (video games) board. The comic itself shows a crudely drawn MS Paint style featuring the main character from the Devil May Cry[2] series, Dante, sending a note reading "ur a faget" to his brother Vergil in an over the top manner.

Spread

A photoshopped version of Vergil's expression was posted in the initial thread[1] in the form of a computer reaction face showing the reaction towards a 4chan post reading "ur a faget" (shown below, left). 2 weeks later, on December 30th, a similar reaction image was uploaded to the Guildwars Wikia[3] in a reaction to an edited Wikipedia header reading "ur a faget" (shown below, right).

On March 2nd, 2008, DeviantArt user Sephi-hatu uploaded an animated version of the original comic (shown below, left).[4] On May 28th, 2008, Youtuber Waruko8D uploaded a slideshow video[5] featuring the comic, while replacing the phrase with Gutsman's Ass. On September 27th, 2010, DeviantArt user Kaiichi uploaded an image[7] of alternate Dante in reply to the announcement of the game DMC: Devil May Cry[8] (shown below, right), a game which was initially criticized due to its reboot of both the series and the character.

Notable Examples

Both the phrase "ur a faget" and Dante's facial expression grew to become popular exploitables to be used in combination with the passing and reading of short notes or letters, in a similar vein as dick butt. Additional examples of this can be found in the image gallery and through the Tumblr tag "ur-a-faget"[6].
