About

Van Gundy, Jackson, Breen Parodies refers to dialogue spoofs of Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson and Mike Breen, ESPN's NBA commentating trio. The spoofs will often highlight how color commentators Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson often go on tangents and discuss unrelated topics while calling an NBA game while play-by-play man Mike Breen will be calling the action on the court.

Origin

The NBA Finals has aired on ABC since 2003, with the trio of Breen, Van Gundy, and Jackson calling the series since 2007, save for 2012 and 2013, when Jackson was an NBA head coach. Their commentary has often proved divisive, with some fans taking issue with Jackson and Van Gundy's tendency to go off on tangents where they complain about NBA rules or talk about things unrelated to the game (example shown below).

In 2008, Bleacher Report[1] published a blog in which writer Drew Barton complained about the trio, writing:

The trifecta of self-indulgence did their best to wreck games as they managed to almost completely ignore the game in favor of yukking it up about whatever caught their fancy or projecting nothing but their own irrelevant ideas of what NBA rules should be.

Parodies of the trio began growing popular on Twitter around 2018. One of the earliest examples was posted on April 14th, 2018 by user @SreekyShooter[2] (shown below).
