W Faps / L Faps, also known as W Goons / L Goons, refers to a set of opposing internet slang terms used to label whether a piece of media is good or bad to masturbate to. The terms are comprised of "W" and "L," which are gaming and sports slang terms for "win" and "loss," and "faps," a plural version of the term "fap" or "fapping," a '90s and 2000s slang term for masturbating, meant to be an onomatopoeia of the private, sexual action. Alternatively, "goons," as in "gooning," replaced "faps" in certain posts. Memes and viral posts, like tweets, using L Faps and W Faps surfaced en masse in 2025, when the terms were coined on Twitter / X. In mid-2025, a series of W Faps LosPollosTV Edits, using photoshopped and AI-generated images of streamer LosPollosTV and his dad, surfaced online with variants of the W Faps and L Faps terms written in yellow text captions.

Origin

On August 29th, 2024, X^[6] user @mlyred replied to a tweet that attached a screenshot of an interaction in which a user said that the adult site XNXX was "bad goons." @mlyred replied, saying that XNXX was definitely "L goons" in their opinion. The reply received over 800 likes in 11 months (shown below).

On April 26th, 2025, X^[1] user @ozlako quote-tweeted a post that was announcing new seasons of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. @ozlako wrote, "Charlie Morningstar and Loona are W Faps but the way this show is animated I couldn't even give it a chance with how much second hand embarrassment I get even watching this trailer." The post received over 8,100 likes in three months (shown below).

On April 26th, 2025, X^[2] user @sippinleaen replied to the original tweet, writing, "I'm the first person in my bloodline to read the phrase 'W faps,'" gaining over 1,100 likes in three months (shown below). Other X^[3] users also reacted to the term in the replies.

On May 29th, X^[4] user @fwbonnie__ quote-tweeted a new post that asked, "Name one thing any of these games gave us," showing images from video games like Roblox's Dandy's World and Forsaken. The user wrote, "W faps," as their answer, gaining over 1,900 likes in two months (shown below).

On May 31st, 2025, X^[5] user @JimmyGibbsJrFan quote-tweeted an animation from X user @ goommymuffin, writing, "Am I just too gay or both of these characters are L faps," gaining over 31,000 likes in two months (shown below). The post is the first-known use of the alternate term L Faps.

On June 3rd, Instagram^[6] user @owen_kung posted a moldy screenshot of a Steam user named Mevans with a Mario profile picture, saying, "Just found W Faps for the day," gaining over 11,500 likes in a month (shown below).

On July 14th, 2025, X^[7] user @nanakon44 quote-tweeted a post to call X's AI language model Grok "W faps" because of the newly released Ani AI Companion feature. In a day, the post received over 2,000 likes (shown below).
