About

Watching TV Shadow vs. Reading A Book Shadow Redraws refers to an exploitable meme that grew popular on X / Twitter in February 2024. X user @SaveYourSons reposted art originally by Instagram user @yo_runner, depicting the difference between the shadows projected by a boy watching TV versus a girl reading a book, with the implication being that the girl's imagination was wilder than the square box impression left on the boy. Redraws of the memes changed the shadows of both characters to parody the "deep" message of the original image.

The problem is that a lot of literature you're introduced to in your formative years from school and older people push onto you tends to be really fucking boring (and that can damage your view of literature as a whole), you can't really train your imagination when you don't have good material to work with.
Which is funny, because back in high school we were made to read a short story specifically about an eccentric man who preferred literature over cinema for that reason.
