Weed Card, also known as Drop the Drug, refers to a viral sketch by Vine user MarlonWebbSkits in which a man sitting in the car tells the police officer that he should not be arrested for drug possession due to him having a "weed card," after which both start dancing to "Hood Figga" by Gorilla Zoe. The Vine gained popularity in edits on iFunny in September 2018, and reached mainstream popularity on Instagram in August 2019.

Origin

On October 28th, 2015, Vine user MarlonWebbSkits posted a comedy sketch starring himself and Vine user chauncey_stubbs.[1] In the sketch, a police officer points a gun at a man sitting inside a car, demanding that he drops "the drug," with the latter responding that he has a "weed card." Both the man and police officer then proceed to dance to "Hood Figga" by Gorrila Zoe, with the police officer also playing the flute. The video gained over 228,500 likes and over 38.2 million views on Vine in four years.

Spread

Starting in September 2018, the Vine gained popularity in edits on iFunny, with one of the earliest notable edits posted by iFunny user takyon on September 8th, 2018 (shown below, left).[2][3]



In the following year, more notable edits of the Vine were posted on iFunny and Instagram.[4] On June 10th, 2019, Instagram user professionalretard.mp4 posted an edit which gained over 204,700 views and 25,800 likes in two months (shown below, left).[5] On August 12th, 2019, Instagram user notkinghill posted a Flying Gorilla edit of the Vine which gained over 111,200 views and 33,000 likes in two weeks.[6]



In the following days, the format gained significant spread on Instagram, with notable edits posted by users largetrap,[7] maddladdsaddladd[8] and marsonevevo.[9]
