We're Finally Getting Married or At First You Were Off-Putting, But You Really Won Me Over is a series of memes, including image macros, in which an anime woman in a wedding dress is shown under a long-form caption in which she expresses excitement over finally getting married, then explains how she first found her fiancée unappealing but was won over for a specified reason. The original meme, which uses a copypasta reading, "Anon I'm so happy we are finally getting married! You know, when we first met I wasn't really attracted to you, but the way you were just so continuously unnecessarily hostile towards me online just for being a woman on the internet really won me over," was posted online in June 2021 and inspired several variations over the following years on sites including Reddit, X / Twitter and iFunny.

Origin

On June 27th, 2021, iFunny^[1] user R0nald_mcd0nald posted an image macro using artwork of Emilia from Re:Zero in a wedding dress, originally by Pixiv^[2] artists 基月, captioned, "Anon I'm so happy we are finally getting married! You know, when we first met I wasn't really attracted to you, but the way you were just so continuously unnecessarily hostile towards me online just for being a woman on the internet really won me over," garnering around three smiles in three years (shown below). This is the earliest known user to post the meme.

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following years, also inspiring new variations. On June 29th, 2021, a version of the meme was posted to /r/danganronpa^[3] that garnered over 1,900 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). On June 9th, 2023, a version was posted to the subreddit /r/2hujerk^[4] that gained over 500 upvotes in a year (shown below, right).

On March 7th, 2024, a version of the meme was posted to /r/animememes,^[5] which was earlier posted to /r/196^[6] on May 25th, 2023, featuring Mash from Fate/Grand Order, that garnered over 1,500 upvotes on the former and 1,700 on the latter in a month (shown below).

On June 9th, 2024, X^[7] user @ShitpostGate reposted a version of the meme originally posted to iFunny^[8] in 2022 that gained over 40,000 likes in a day.
