About

What a Bunch of Hippy Dippy Baloney, also known as What a Bunch of Hippy Dippy Bologna, refers to a scene from The Lego Movie in which the villain character President Business (voiced by Will Ferrell) states that something is "hippy dippy baloney" while the camera zooms in on his face. The scene became a trending meme template on TikTok in mid-2023, following a version of the audio that progressively sped-up.

Origin

On February 7th, 2014, The Lego Movie released in American theaters.[1] In one scene of the film, the villain character President Business (voiced by Will Ferrell) kicked another character off a ledge. Afterwards, he looked into the camera and said, "What a bunch of hippy dippy baloney" (YouTube[2] upload shown below).

The first-known usage of the scene in a memetic context was a YouTube Poop posted by YouTuber[3] The Crimson King on December 8th, 2021, gaining roughly 2,700 views in two years (shown below).

Spread

Despite prior usage on YouTube, the scene didn't become a predominant meme trend until mid-2023, directly following a video posted by TikToker[4] @ethan.lb06 on August 7th, 2023, who progressively sped-up the video, gaining roughly 1.9 million plays and 370,100 likes in eight days (shown below, left). Soon after, meme creators on the app started to caption the video and use @ethan.lb06's sound,[5] such as TikToker[6] @lotuq on August 8th, 2023, who wrote, "I'll get on in 5min," earning roughly 2 million plays and 476,700 likes in one week (shown below, right).
