"Who Is The Imposter?" refers to a series of memes based on a Chips Ahoy commercial that references ironic Among Us memes. In July 2021, the commercial gained popularity as source material for edits, particularly for YouTube poops and 21st-century humor edits.

Origin

The premiere date of the commercial is unconfirmed but is presumed to be July 10th, 2021. On that day, YouTuber[1] Knowlegepie5 yt uploaded the commercial, with the video gaining over 40,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

In the 14-second commercial, two anthropomorphic chocolate chip cookies discover that one of them is an imposter. The caption "Who is the imposter?," deliberately misspelled, with the commercial intentionally referencing the When the Imposter Is Sus meme and ironic Among Us memes in general.

On July 12th, 2021, YouTuber[2] enderience posted a Friday Night Funkin' mod meme that used the sound from the commercial. The video (shown below, left) received over 4,200 views in two weeks. On the same day, YouTuber[3] SoggyBread posted an Among Us YouTube poop that received over 3,600 views in two weeks. Also on the same day, YouTuber[4] MrSteal uploaded a YouTube poop that received over 25,200 views in the same period (shown below, right).



On July 15th, 2021, YouTuber[5] MrOnionFoot posted a compilation of "cringe" Chips Ahoy ads, which received over 315,000 views in two weeks.

On July 21st, 2021, YouTuber[6] Arcade Assassin posted the first viral edit of the commercial. The video received over 280,000 views in one week (shown below, left). In the following days, more viral edits were posted on YouTube, with the memes typically referencing Among Us and utilizing poop and 21st-century humor formats.

On July 25th, 2021, YouTuber[7] Lessons In Meme Culture posted a review of the meme format, which gained over 389,000 views in two days (shown below, right).
