Who Knocked Over My Onions refers to a viral Twitter post made in 2016 showing a knocked-over planter of onions, followed by a photo of a cat being held down by a man's hand captioned, "YOU." The post gained viral spread, inspiring numerous redraws and recreations over the following years on sites like Twitter and Tumblr, often replacing the cat with another character.

Origin

On December 4th, 2016, Twitter^[1] user @Maxiedome posted a photo of a planter of onions knocked onto the floor, writing, "WHO KNOCKED OVER MY ONIONS," garnering over 65,000 likes and 66,000 retweets in seven years. Under the post is a comment showing a photo of a man holding down a cat, writing, "YOU," garnering over 69,000 likes and 66,000 retweets in the same span of time (shown below).

Spread

The post gained viral spread and became the subject of redraws and recreations over the following years, often replacing the cat with another character. On September 8th, 2017, Twitter^[2] user @chibleee recreated the post, using a photo of someone choking Kermit the Frog in place of the cat. On November 9th, Tumblr^[3] user phailnail posted a Doki Doki Literature Club edit that garnered over 2,200 notes in six years (shown below, left). On May 4th, 2018, Twitter^[4] user @MzzaArt posted a redraw of the meme that gained over 100 likes in five years. On October 12th, a now-deleted Kirby version of the meme by Tumblr user kirfluff was uploaded to Know Your Meme (shown below, right).

On December 15th, 2019, Twitter^[5] user @flamingopunch posted a version of the meme replacing the cat with the Pokemon Galarian Meowth, garnering over 20,000 likes and 6,500 retweets in four years (shown below).

The redraw is also notably popular on Tumblr. On February 5th, 2021, Tumblr^[6] user furiouskettle posted a version of the meme's bottom-half with Furby, garnering over 1,400 notes in two years (shown below, left). On May 11th, Tumblr^[7] user cheebuss posted a Resident Evil redraw of the meme, garnering over 1,050 notes in two years (shown below, right).

On May 31st, FurAffinity^[8] user Annie-Mae posted a redraw of the meme referencing Ren and Stimpy, garnering over 500 views in two years. On April 11th, 2023, Tumblr^[9] user itz-spirit posted a version of the meme featuring Wally Darling, garnering over 500 notes in a day (shown below).
