Woman Gripping With Both Hands or If You Pay For My Nails You're Gonna See Them In This Position is a Photoshop, redraw and "finish the drawing" template consisting of two female hands, one positioned vertically over top of the other as if gripping something. The image and meme started appearing on social media as early as January 2024 and is often posted alongside a prompt asking users to finish the picture by drawing something in the hands, resulting in numerous examples being created that year.

Origin

On January 11th, 2024, X[1] user @iconic_sage1 and 9GAG[2] user itsjustapen posted a drawing of a woman's hands, one held vertically over the other as if gripping something (shown below). It is unclear who was the first to post it or if the drawing originates from either user.

Each post has a caption asking users to complete the drawing by adding something to the hands, the former gaining over 130 likes and 40 comments and the latter gaining over 50 downvotes in six months, each inspiring several redraws (examples shown below).[3][4]

Spread

The image was reposted numerous times over the following months, often inspiring photoshops. On February 12th, 2024, it was reposted by 9GAG[5] user cutzshinoda, garnering over 60 comments, with the top comment being a photoshop that gained over 450 upvotes in five months (shown below, left). On the same day, it was posted to /r/NoRules,[6] garnering over 720 upvotes in the same span of time, with the top photoshop garnering over 1,000 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On June 18th, it was posted to the PrivateTalkAlexis Facebook[7] page, garnering over 4,200 reactions in a month. On the same day, it was posted to /r/USMC,[8] garnering over 330 upvotes in the same span of time.

On June 23rd, X[9] user @lowkyhrt posted the template, writing, "if you pay for my nails you’re gonna see them in this position," garnering over 39,000 likes and 8,900 reposts in a week. On June 29th, X[10] user @thegreendorm quote-reposted the post showing the hands holding the Millennium Rod, garnering over 1,000 likes in two days (shown below).
