You Are Known For is an exploitable image macro of a scene from The Office depicting Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) and Pam Beesly (played by Jenna Fischer) discussing what someone or something is known for, usually against their wish. The scene in question does not include this quote in its original dialogue or meaning, which is instead taken from a different sketch within the series, similar to the For The Better, Right? meme.

Origin

The first example of the format was made in Turkish on Twitter^[1] by user @Gwindore, who posted it on May 28th, 2021, and received 110 likes in four months (shown below). The meme discusses a character from the video game League of Legends that's described as being known as a "top laner," to which Scott's character replies is actually a "jungler."

Within the replies, @Gwindore admitted that it is a direct derivative of For The Better, Right? but believes in The Office format enough to go through with it. This proves fruitful, as on August 7th, 2021, the Redditor BookDeVour posts the format with an English caption to the /r/memes^[2] subreddit, earning 32,000 upvotes in five days (shown below).

Spread

After the format using the country flags via object labeling, the meme continued to spread and evolve into using other countries or icons to represent different people and places.

On August 12th, 2021, Twitter^[3] user @sister_crimson posted a version of the meme that incorporates the metal band Ghost (shown below).
