About

You Find Yourself In Great Danger refers to an exploitable POV image and video edit series in which a dialog box from the 2015 video game Undertale reading "you find yourself in great danger" is placed over various images, implying you are about to fight them. The trend began in 2018, slowly increasing in interest leading into 2021 and becoming a memorable catchphrase.

Origin

On October 13th, 2018, YouTuber[1] SkyExiler posted a video in which a number of Fortnite characters dance. At the end, a character dressed vaguely as Sans from Undertale dances. The video dramatically pauses and a dialogue pops up reading, "you find yourself in a great danger," followed by a zoom into the character's face and the battle theme (shown below). This is the earliest video using the format.

On October 26th, 2018, Amino[2] user "I'm stuff" posted a collection of image edits, some original and some not, including an image of a character from the Five Nights at Freddy's webcomic "Springtrap And Delilah" with the "great danger" text box pasted over the top (shown below). This is the earliest known image following the format. The collection gained over 120 likes in roughly three years.

Spread

Instances of the format slowly increased over the course of the next two years, although none managed to go significantly viral as of April 2021. For example, on September 19th, 2018, Know Your Meme[3] user Iknika posted an original No Anime Penguin meme featuring the text box, garnering over 530 views in roughly three years (shown below, left). On March 23rd, 2019, iFunny[4] user CVNT5 posted an image macro featuring someone in an Amazon box under the text box, garnering roughly 30 smiles in two years (shown below, right).

On an unknown date in 2020, Pinterest[5] user kasinny uploaded a version of the meme with Cheems under the text box (shown below). On December 3rd of that year, Redditor u/Wie_Yuri posted an image to /r/goodanimemes[8] featuring a disturbingly drawn version of Nero Claudius of the "Padoru" meme along with the text box, garnering over 3,000 upvotes in four months (shown below).

On December 10th, Redditor u/Iwan099 posted a video to /r/Pyrocinical[7] of an animated Obama head floating over a field with the text "Obama boss fight" and the title "*You find yourself in great danger,*" likely a reference to Undertale, showing its increasing use as a standalone catchphrase.

On January 17th, 2021, YouTuber[6] DeanBean9000 uploaded a video edit following the format using an image of King DeDeDe from the Kirby video game series holding a gun (shown below).
