The original stitch was shared by TikToker Tiky Perez (@tikyperez) in 2021, with the video becoming popularized among FlopTok meme circles on the app. The video largely resonated with users because it was perceived as cringe. On November 15th, 2021, TikToker^[1] @tikyperez stitched TikToker^[2] @alexismlem whose video showed her throwing a stick into a mug to decide if she should get a dog. When the stick lands in the mug, her cat pulls it out, making her laugh.

TikToker @tikyperez then reacts to the video by imagining the cat's inner narration, saying, "Your cat is like, 'Oh no no no no, we're not getting a dog, don't even think about it, girl.'" Over three years, the stitch received roughly 52 million plays and 7.3 million likes (shown below).
