There are no good options here, either we're at a point where people getting made fun of actually say 'aha, I intended it all along, because I am a master ruseman' and can be unironically believed; or we've reached a point where tricking people you hate into publicly insulting you and then bragging about how much better you are can unironically be considered good PR.

Both are 'nuke everything from orbit' levels of horrid; but 'ACTUALLY I intended it all along, you're just puppets' pathetic coping is marginally less dystopic.
