There are other noteable failures, but here's what separates Concord from the rest: - 1st party, AAA game -8 year development cycle -$100-200+ million budget (probably due to 8 year dev cycle) - Sony bought the ENTIRE STUDIO specifically for this game -Abysmally low sales - Double-digit player count for a live service game... within DAYS of release! -Flopped so hard it was UN-LAUNCHED and removed from store fronts after 2 weeks Never has any game failed on this level. Any other failure doesn't meet these metrics. Think about E.T. for example - It was rushed out after a month of development, barely any budget whatsoever, still sold a ton up front. Or you see people bring up Redfall - a game that had 10 times the player count on just Steam (not including PC Game Pass), wasn't in development for 8 years, still got updates well after launch, and still exists 1 year later. From PlayStation 10/9/2024 Concord Thank you for being a valued PlayStation customer. Live services for Concord went offline 6/9/24. E.T. killed investors interest in a small fraction of the industry.
It was only western consoles and shovelware companies that oversaturated the marked that died in that "crash". The european console and software market were absolutely fine, and then Japan came along with NES.
I still don't know why people make such a mountain out of that molehill.
