The slang term went viral in February 2024 after it was posted to X / Twitter, inspiring several viral videos on TikTok using the caption, "When he won't lay over my sunroof and let me act like a thirsty hamster."

Origin

The earliest known reference to the "thirsty hamster sunroof" was posted by X^[1] user @Keegan199159 on February 19th, 2024, writing, "Oh you a freak? Let me lay over your sunroof and you can act like a thirsty hamster. Talk about it, be about it," garnering one like in two days. Later that day, X^[2] user @marzmisa posted, "when he wont lay over my sunroof and let me act like a thirsty hamster 😔💔," garnering over 130 likes in the same span of time (shown below).
