About

"Perfect for the Switch" is a term used by both Nintendo Switch's users and detractors of the console. Of the latter, the term is often used as a derogatory phrase to mock people who beg for certain games to be ported to the Switch.

Origin

After the Nintendo Switch was announced, Nintendo also announced that it had partnered with several major companies to create games for and port pre-existing games to the Switch.

Due its strong third-party support and rise in popularity, many fans have made predictions/wishlists of games that they would like to see on the console, commonly using the phrase "Perfect for the Switch." For example, on September 19th, 2017, YouTube channel GameCross uploaded a video titled "12 Games That Would be PERFECT for the Switch" (shown below, left). On November 5th, 2017, channel WatchMojo.com uploaded a video recapping games they'd want to see on the Switch (shown below, right).

Spread

The popularity of the comment has become a joke among gaming fans as they'll mock Nintendo fans' desire for each newly announced game to come out on the Switch. For example, on November 16th 2017, the YouTube user JoeyPockett uploaded a video titled "Perfect for the Switch," in which he satirizes the reactions of the people asking for games to be on the console (shown below).

On Twitter, jokes about the phrase have appeared making fun of Nintendo fans. For example, Twitter user @DonaldAShults uploaded a sarcastic joke on April 23rd, 2018 (shown below, left). On March 8th, @Khalifist posted a comment about Nintendo Switch hype denigrating the phrase (shown below, right). Dualshockers wrote an article about what they called the "noxious" behavior of Nintendo fans begging for ports on February 18th, 2018.[1]

Donald A. Ssshhhhhults @DonaldAShults Follow Sometimes when I am looking at a game online l just wish someone in the comments would mention if that game was perfect for the Switch. 10:14 PM -23 Apr 2018 Gilbert Gottfried Parrot @Khalifist Follow Switch hype really disgusts me. N----- immediate assumption is because I can take it with me to the store every game is automatically better. Not every game benefits from portability stop trying it. This "perfect for the Switch" s--- is getting tired 10:42 AM-8 Mar 2018

A Hat in Time controversy

On January 14th, 2018, the official A Hat in Time Twitter account announced in a now deleted tweet that there were no plans for a Switch port, despite the fact the team received a Switch development kit.[2] This was later confirmed on February 5th 2018.[3] This caused Nintendo fans to harass the Twitter account, leading to developer Jonas Kaerlev to express his frustration with Nintendo fans. A thread about the controversy posted to Reddit gained over 1,100 points.[4]

Various Examples

Did you forget something? That it's not feasible for all games to be on every console and developers are often restricted by financial or otherwise limitations that makes porting not an option despite the improved accessibility to multi-platform engines and software + you should be nice to developers regardless of their target platform decision, maybe? NG ICH? > tfw you're a Switch fan with no other console right now and these a-holes are making fools out of themselves and discouraging developers from porting their games when yes, they actually would be perfect for the Switch
