About

Lego Star Wars are a series of Lego-themed action-adventure video games based on the Lego Star Wars line of toys. Though the series was started in 2005, memes involving it popped off in 2018, appearing in IRL video game edits and nostalgic memes.

History

While the Lego Star Wars lineup was the first ever licensed property for The Lego Company to use in 1999, the first game in the Lego Star Wars series, Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, was released in 2005 for the Nintendo Gamecube, Playstation 2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Windows, and Mac OS X. Developed by Traveller's Tales, the game focused on, and was released in tandem with, the prequel trilogy of films.

The game would receive a sequel in 2006, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy that focused on the namesake original trilogy of Star Wars movies. In response to the success of both titles, Traveller's Tales released Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga in 2007 which contained content from both games as well as extra content not present in the first game such as cut or modified levels.

In 2011, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars was released, which focused on the first two seasons of the CGI animated Clone Wars television series. In 2016, a Lego video game adaptation of The Force Awakens was released, which featured voice acting for the first time in the series.

The Skywalker Saga

On June 9th, 2019, Microsoft unveiled Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga during their Xbox E3 conference, which will compile all numbered movies into one game, including The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. The game is set for release in 2020 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. (trailer shown below)
