At the beginning of the month, a Twitter / X user named Charlotte (@burntfishie) tweeted a photo from a bridge. "It's a pretty view," the caption read.

The account has not posted since.

The girl's real name is Charlotte Fosgate (17), and after the gutwrenching tweet, she was pronounced missing in Clackamas County, Oregon, where she resides.

So many days have passed since then, and the developing story has only gotten bigger, as it's moved outside of Fosgate's immediate Twitter circle to people who are mocking the teenager for being transgender.

As a warning, this story deals with suicide, so please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's website or call 1-800-273-8255 if you are struggling.

Who Is Charlotte Fosgate?

Charlotte Fosgate is a 17-year-old from Oak Grove, Oregon, who posts on the Twitter account @burntfishie. She's had several viral tweets over the years, many of which joke about video games, anime and the IKEA BLÅHAJ Shark.

Fosgate is also transgender. Many of her posts are light-hearted quips and observations about her gender identity.

What Happened To Charlotte Fosgate, aka 'Burntfishie?'

On May 2nd, 2025, Charlotte Fosgate posted a photo taken on a bridge at night. The tweet read, "It's such a pretty view."

In a follow-up reply posted minutes later, Fosgate added, "Long way down."

Her internet friends feared the worst after seeing the tweet. One of them contacted the authorities in Clackamas County, Oregon, where Fosgate is from.

The Sheriff's Office quickly created a missing persons report, which was shared online by one of Fosgate's mutuals.

Updates slowed down after that. Almost every day, a new person would quote-tweet Fosgate's tweet, sending well wishes and hoping for the best.

The optimism changed when X user @MelliBean_ chimed in last Friday, revealing that they were a close friend of Fosgate and that she had purportedly passed away.

As of writing, an official police report or obituary has not yet been released, but many people are trusting @MelliBean_ and respecting the privacy of the family.

What Are People Saying On Twitter About Charlotte Fosgate?

At first, the majority of reactions to Charlotte Fosgate's purported death were heartfelt and supportive. However, after @MelliBean_'s tweets, a different side of Twitter caught wind of the story and decided to attack Fosgate for being transgender and purportedly taking her own life.

One of the earliest replies, from someone opposed to Fosgate's identity, asked the platform's AI model, Grok, to generate an AI image of an overweight man in the bridge photo, saying, "Long way down." Grok complied with the request.

Transphobic statements quickly flooded the replies to the original tweet. "Libtards will see beautiful views like this then proceed to jump off a bridge," said one user, captioning a Pepe the Frog meme. Another user inserted a transgender Soyjak into the haunting bridge photo.

However, all of these posts were met with pushback from other users as it continued garnering attention.

To some onlookers, the hate was unprecedented and inhumane. Some labeled the transphobes "conservatives" and "right-wingers," harking on the perceived "Groyper" takeover of the Republican party.

"A child took her life and the comments are full of right-wingers mocking her death," said one passionate user. "Conservatives are genuinely such disgustingly cruel, depraved monsters. It makes me sick," they continued.

What Did 'StoneToss' Post?

Webcomic artist StoneToss is well-known for his anti-woke beliefs and right-wing political themes, which he regularly uses for his cartoons. A lot of people don't like him for it, but for many who don't agree with his takes, his comics are liked and widely reposted.

On Monday, StoneToss decided to post one of his older comics in the replies to Charlotte Fosgate's last tweet. The comic showed a transgender character standing on the ledge of a building. A cop below shouts up, "Men are statistically more likely to follow through with it," causing them to turn away in anger.

The comic, unsurprisingly, sparked viral outrage. "Do you believe this is funny? Do you think mocking a child's death is funny?" wrote one user.

"Stonetoss’ mother hearing a gunshot in the basement," wrote another user, captioning the Man Breaking Chains meme to represent the comic artist's family celebrating his demise.

StoneToss received considerable pushback from these users and others on Twitter, but his online shaming was only one of many happening to other users. His notoriety, however, has made him one of the main agitators in Charlotte Fosgate's story as the tragedy and controversial discourse continue spreading.
