The Weekly Meme Roundup: Ashton Hall's Morning Routine, Hotspot Bro, AI Studio Ghibli And More

Have you finished your morning routine yet? If so, it's time to take a look back at the top memes of the past week that you might have missed out on.
This week on social media, the "Hotspot Bro" anomaly terrorized TikTok with its unending desire to use all your data, while the rest of the internet obsessed over using AI to apply the Studio Ghibli style to the most famous photos and memes on Earth.
On top of all that, we saw a GIF of a person almost kissing a monkey blow up on X and Invincible got yet another meme with the "Are You Sure?" edits.
Here are all the biggest memes of the past week that you need to check out.
Ashton Hall's Morning Routine
Fitness influencer Ashton Hall became one of the most viral people on social media this week after a video of his elaborate and confusing morning routine went viral.
Hall posted the video back in February, but it didn't go viral until it was posted to X by user @tipsformenx earlier this week. In the video, Hall is shown going through his typical morning routine, which involves waking up at 3:52 a.m., working out on his balcony for a few minutes, dunking his face in ice cold Saratoga Spring Water a few times and rubbing his face with a banana peel — to name just a few of the highlights.
This morning routine was decidedly not very relatable for a lot of people, who turned it into one of the biggest memes of the year so far.
Since going viral, the video has been reacted to by countless content creators. It's also inspired a trend in which people parody the video by showing their own morning routines inspired by Ashton's.
The meme has greatly helped Ashton's online growth already, with his Instagram account hitting 9 million followers only a few days ago.

Hotspot Bro
You've probably heard of Italian brainrot at this point, but what about Indonesian brainrot? Meet the Hotspot Bro meme.
@dytzz88 Anomali Hotspot 🤓😰😰 #hotspot #mokondo #wifi #anomali ♬ suara asli – 😹 (Human)
In the same vein as the Italian brainrot animals, the Hotspot Bro meme is an AI-heavy, text-to-speech format about an "anomaly" that begs its friends to let it access their Wi-Fi hotspot.
Each meme features an AI-generated image of the anomaly, often depicted as a skeleton or some other creature holding a phone (or sometimes with a phone for a head) as an Indonesian voice warns against letting it use your hotspot, as all the anomaly wants to do is download large files and use up all your data.
Some of the most popular memes use captions about "that one bro who always needs a wi-fi," while others are lip dubs that abandon the AI angle and feature someone begging their friend to turn on a hotspot.
The meme has blown up alongside its brainrot brothers this week, including Tung Tung Sahur, begging the question, "Will the foreign-language brainrot memes ever die?"

Studio Ghibli AI Generator
Over the last few days, AI-generated recreations of popular memes and photos in the Studio Ghibli art style have been going viral all over the place, but not everyone is vibing with the trend.

The memes started on March 25th after OpenAI introduced its 4o Image Generation update. This update lets people render text and tweak images in great detail, leading to much more accurate and impressive results than ever before.
One thing that it lets you do is reimagine images in a given style. While many have been using the tool to apply the South Park style to their photos, the Studio Ghibli style has far-and-away become the most popular over the past few days.
Everyone from the biggest influencers and content creators to the most chronically online brands have been taking part in the trend. Even the White House got in on the trend in a very controversial way. But some people aren't too happy about the memes and AI art.
AI art is a very controversial topic and seeing it produce such accurate results has made some artists sweat. The meme has also been criticized as being disrespectful to real artists and especially Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki.

Almost Kissing Monkey GIF
You'd never kiss a monkey, but one person came incredibly close and the video of that person is now going viral on X as a meme about urges and longing.

The video, which shows someone teasing a caged monkey by putting their lips close to its cage as if about to kiss it but never actually locking lips, was posted to BiliBili back in September 2024. It made its way to Reddit and TikTok that year and finally landed on X in February, where users turned it into a meme.
Recently, that meme has taken off as users attach funny, ironic captions that play off the passion and longing that oozes from the clip.
The GIF has proven incredibly versatile over the past few days, with some popular examples reading, "Hovering over my scalding tea while resisting the urge to sip it" and "being in a long distance talking stage."

Invincible "Are You Sure?" Edits
The animated superhero series Invincible has been getting a lot of respect with meme lovers lately, and the viral "Are You Sure?" edits are one of the most popular examples of this.
@mbvlayne are you sure #fyp #invincible #meme #viral #shitposting #trending ♬ original sound – h
These absurd memes take a clip of Omni-Man saying, "Are you sure?" and insert it into other, highly edited scenes from the show. Many of these memes combine other popular Invincible memes, like the "Where is Omni-Man?" memes, to amp up the level of insanity.
While the first few examples of the meme are fairly tame, it's only gotten more elaborate as its virality grows, resulting in some truly lobotomized memes.
With the third season of the show wrapped up, memes like this are giving fans an opportunity to keep sharing and discussing the series while they embark on what might feel like a long wait for season four.
