"Snake Eyes!" "88 Teeth!" "Hammerhead!" Do these names sound familiar? Then you must have either watched a Looney Tunes classic or stumbled onto a recently popular meme based on. Learn what the meme where Duck Detective shouts villain names is about and where it comes from in our brief explainer.

What Is ‘Daffy Duck Listing Villains’?

"Daffy Duck Listing Villains" refers to a clip from the 1946 Looney Tunes cartoon which went viral in late April and early May 2024. The clip, in which Daffy Duck (or rather his fantasy alter-ego Duck Twacy) shouts names of gangsters surrounding him, has been paired with fitting captions and spread around on X / Twitter.

Where Does ‘Daffy Duck Listing Villains’ Clip Come From?

The clip comes from the 1946 Looney Tunes cartoon The Great Piggy Bank Robbery by Warner Bros. In the cartoon, Daffy Duck reads a comic about a detective and starts daydreaming, imagining himself as genius detective Duck Twacy. At one point, Duck Twacy enters a gangsters' hideout and finds himself surrounded by a group of eleven villains. He then shouts the name of each villain as they appear on the screen.

Who Started 'Daffy Duck Listing Villains' Meme?

Earliest notable posts about the villains appeared on Tumblr 12 years ago, when users yazzydream and colerothacker both posted image collages of the roster. The later post was popular on the site and has accumulated over 16,000 likes and reblogs since.

The post that turned the scene into a meme was made on April 30th, 2024, by X / Twitter user @TheCow92230608, who was the first to pair it with a humorous caption.

From then on, not only the clip became a popular caption format, but the villains themselves appeared in a variety of memes, often replacing fighter rosters in various video games.
