war is declared on the States of the Rising Sword and an army is sent to invade Iberia. They are soon met with a massive army of revolutionaries, which surround the Levantine forces and requires a hasty retreat from the landing.
Another invasion force is sent to defeat the Swords, but Ovo’s military is spread thin and few armies are available for the task. They do not take much ground before being forced out of the country by revolutionaries.
Forces in Iberia dig into their positions, but are sadly defeated by the revolutionary army. The swords take no prisoners, and the Zellanian army in Iberia is surrounded and completely destroyed.
The army in Marrakesh is wiped out.

I'd like to make an announcement, after their complete and utter failure to invade me, the OVO, Syserror, Zellania, and Levant are hereby banned from using the strait of Gibraltar until a public apology is issued and trade is restored with me. Any other country is free to pass through…with the toll that is.

How the fuck did you get invaded by four countries, undergo an total economic collapse and then a violent revolution, and come out completely unscathed?

Generally speaking when your country is in an economic collapse and the populous is starving, they will literally do anything and die for anything. So essentially the entire population is an army: See the French Revolution for something similar

That's funny! I didn't know the Swords were so humorous!

Due to recent events and conversations, I would like to announce the toll is remove completely. But those who are still banned from it are still banned completely.

If a tech is a state secret then nobody can steal it from you. If another nation has that tech, they can steal it from them instead or, if they are able, simply invent it themselves.


@All concerns regarding the Sword revolutionary army:

I figured that there might be some questions about how the Swords managed to devastate the armies of almost every player nation attacking at once, especially considering their previous economic situation.

First, it really helps that they are fighting on home turf. To compound on that, Iberia, southern France, and Marrakesh are all mountainous regions. This means that not only were your soldiers invading a land they did not know, the Swords had tons of strategic choke-points and very defensible foothills to work with.

Second, the Sword army is massive. Truly and utterly gigantic. I will continue my trend of never using exact numbers, so let's just say that before the reconquest of Gibraltar all of the invaders combined had a force about one and a half times the size of the Sword army. After defeating their enemies, however, the Swords now have about the same number of soldiers as all of their enemies combined. This is not a rabble of peasants, either. This is a well-trained and now, thanks to their many victories, veteran force.

Third, the rise of nationalism is occurring in Iberia. This greatly helps explain the size of their army, as well as its performance in the war. When the old regime was cast down during the revolution and the printing press was invented, the people of the Sword States realized how much they had in common with each other and began to view their nation and way of life as superior to all others. They started to realize that there was more to life than the local concerns of their own little village and that their actions can and will shape the future of their nation. While it is true that nationalism and homeland pride has existed for centuries, it has never been as universal or strong as it is now in the Sword States. Recruiters do not have to coerce peasants to join the armies or promise loot and pillaging for the victors. People are actively seeking careers in the military due to national pride. The people are rising up in droves to improve their country and, if possible, the rest of the world through the values of the Sword revolution. By force, if need be. This nationalist sentiment will gradually make its way to all the other countries in the world as well, much faster if they are invaded by the Swords (nationalism developing as a reactionary movement against the Sword occupation) or if they develop their own forms of mass media.

  • The Pathmakers have overrun the Shoshone nation, enforcing the ideals of their revolution across the plains. Millions are converted to the cause, becoming fervent believers in Tengri and Pathmaker. Sioux is invaded shortly after the fall of Shoshone and Ottawa declares war to defend their ally.

  • Quechua's emperor has embraced Pathmaker's teachings, opening trade with all foreigners and forcibly converting his subjects to Tengriism. He has also declared war on the new Blood Kingdom to prevent the propagation of what he now sees as the world's true great evil.
  • Gunpowder weaponry has propagated all throughout North America and is being used heavily in the current conflicts by all sides.
  • The Holy Persian Empire invade Chagatai. The war is won quickly due to their vastly superior weapons, and the peace treaty puts most of Central Asia under Indian control.

  • The old Talion laws are struck down, being criticized as barbaric and antiquated. A new justice system is developed relying on evidence, witnesses, and delivering sentences that are neither cruel nor overbearing.
  • More soldiers are sent to Panama to build fortifications. The thick jungle and high mountains severely complicate the effort, and medicine must be constantly imported to keep the entire force healthy and protected from malaria and yellow fever. Mexican forces are assembling on the border, but have yet to attack.
  • The war in Choctaw proceeds slowly. The fight for their south is bloody and tiring, but territory is very gradually being won. The Choctaw have vastly superior numbers, but their weapons are no match for Doonish gatling guns and Howitzers.
  • An alliance is struck up with the Pathmakers. Supplies and modern weapons are sent to them to aid their war effort.
  • The agrarian economy cannot keep up with the massive size of the Doonish nation. Local farmers cannot compete with the massive farming efforts in other nations, and small scale production is not enough to keep up with demand. The economy needs modernization.

  • The Ovon forces are funneled back towards the capital, where they entrench themselves and fight desperately, refusing to surrender at all costs. Great numbers of civilians are drafted for the defense, and even greater numbers volunteer. Families are fighting as units, organized around family members who were part of the army before the invasion.
  • The fleet begins raiding Choctaw and Iroquois ports, successfully restricting all of their trade and logistical support to land routes.
  • Reinforcements are sent to Panama to aid Doon in the defense.
  • A new justice system is established, relying upon real evidence and witness testimonies. Fair and impartial judgement is delivered through the use of juries.

  • Radio waves are discovered and utilized to send messages as fast as light can travel, which is just about as fast as it gets. This new invention allows the nation to stay connected and allows operatives to engage in long-distance cooperation.
  • Colonists avoid the Congo jungles, expanding deeper into the Savannah grasslands to the north.
  • Public education systems are established, and it is declared that all children are required to receive such an education. Optional higher education is also provided, but not required, by the state.
  • The agrarian economy is floundering, failing to keep production rates as high as other nations. It would seem that small farmsteads and independent manufacturies are highly inefficient.

Zellania

  • Insane theorists have decided that the sky is an ocean. How else, they argue, does it rain? The maddest of the lot have built sky ships to explore the vast emptiness of the ocean above.
  • Nationalism is encouraged. A national anthem is composed and a massive arts project is funded by the state to revolutionize the nation's culture and redirect creative efforts towards patriotism.
  • A special operatives group, called The Frogmen, is established. Their focus is on terrorism and stealth, sneaking behind enemy lines or charging into defenses for shock value.

  • The Zulus are dealt with, being crushed by an invasion from the north and south simultaneously by MacTire and Navan forces, respectively. Zanzibar and Ethiopia send a few regiments of soldiers to help as well.
  • A state welfare system is established.
  • The Polic guerrilla warfare tactics are added into military training courses.

  • The Gibraltar toll is removed.
  • Ovo is invaded. Their defensive forces are quickly defeated, and the revolutionary army moves deep into their territory. Soldiers are given no quarter, and once this is realized the defenders turn volatile, refusing to surrender and fighting down to the last man. This complicates the invasion attempt significantly and inspires violent resistance by civilians, who see the invaders as barbaric and dishonorable.
  • The senate is concerned that some of the more ambitious generals are becoming too popular politically. They fear that they may overtake the government when returning from the war. An attempt is made to suppress this kind of violent militaristic patriotism by hosting state-funded parades and rallies. Loyalty is gradually moving back towards the government, but some generals remain popular, and their return to the homeland could be dangerous to national stability.
  • The Navan border is fortified.
  • A national food stockpile is established, allowing the state to regulate food prices and feed the population during times of crisis.

Syserror

  • A land trade is agreed upon with Dathuastan.
  • A naval fortress is established in a good harbor in New Guinea. it is used as a base of operations to invade Majapahit, which capitulates instantly.
  • Gold is mined in Africa and sent back to Syserror.
  • Immigrants are given citizenship immediately upon entry to the army. This has greatly expanded the scope of citizenship throughout the nation and its colonies and a large foreign legion is established to accommodate the new recruits in groups which speak their own language.
  • Slavia is invaded and quickly defeated with help from Zellania.
  • A parliament is established to replace the senate as the ruling body of Syserror.
  • Oil is prospected in Iraq. It has few uses in a modern economy, and is deemed virtually worthless.

Just so you guys know, I'm gonna be hosting International Summits every tun from here on out. I'm not sure if this is going to have any impact on the game whatsoever but I figure it's a good way to flesh out the world a bit. Anyway, you should all totally send a representative next turn.

Sorry for all of the rule changes lately, but I need to make one more. I want tech to advance faster than it is right now, so from now on you may steal two techs and invent one on the same turn.

I was legitimately defending myself and not acting out of greed here unlike what I did with the Roses, and now I'm the bad guy?

And now I have these generals I have to do something about, essentially Napoleon V2.0 electric boogaloo. If I kill them or try to silence them, the people will riot and even more violence will spread and they will go off doing Solaire knows what. I'm also certain my people have a quasi-fascist feeling about themselves, so there' that too.

im willing to make a treaty of no more aggresion, i was easily one of the factions that did the less damage to your city from all other fronts so im sure you can be more forgiving.

but if your nation really needs war i guess, all i can do is fight back with what little i have, mostly cause i cant afford to send back the entire front figthing on america

Okay well your people got their little revenge fight with Ovo. They fucked up him up pretty good. Now can you pull your forces back and call it a win before this gets too complicated?

I'm a busy world power and I didn't want to have to take forces of my other conquests to deal with you.

If your generals are too trigger happy and ready to explode within in your own borders, well frankly that's your problem to work out. Don't get the rest of us involved in your internal disputes

Sorry, you were just the closest one and I don't have a sizeable or advanced navy. I'll pull back before something even more crazy happens (I can't guarantee they will listen though). I'll be keeping some land though to try and appease them for when I attempt to bring down my generals.
