Lucina > Marth
Dr. Mario > Mario

That's what I figured out so far. Lucina's more balanced fighting style works smoother in this game than Marth's yeah brah top sword for top score.. And I never understood the function of Fludd so Dr. Mario's down-special spinny move is pretty much the sole reason I prefer him.

Well! I just can't wait for the Wii U edition. I like the new classic mode and I'm fine if the one of the Wii U version is identical but longer.
I still hope in a replacement of the Adventure Mode of Melee and the Subspace Emissary of Brawl.
I have heard from a friend that has the 3DS version that the Smash Run is as good as unsatisfing, like one single slice of a very good pizza.
I guess that's the deal of having the game on handheld system.
So I'm hoping that whatever will come as an exclusive for the Wii U edition will be similar to Smash Run but more deep.

I think it's pretty cool. Then again, I really get off on unpredictable, randomly-generated things. (The map isn't, but the encounters, events, and item drops are) The final battle's always different. Sometimes it's a free-for-all, sometimes a team game. Sometimes you battle hordes of monsters, once I got a race to the end of a map. That can suck if your character has crappy speed, but there's lots of traps that can trip up the super speedy.

I really suck at home run contest. There's a challenge on panel 2 that requires you to hit 1986 feet. (600 meters) I can't do it! I got about 1800 feet with Ness by spamming PK Fire, but that's the best I could do.

What's the highest intensity we've all beaten Classic mode on? I've only done up to 3.5, but I might be able to manage 5 with a little trouble. On 3.5, the hand bros were a lot simpler than I expected them to be.

This is gonna be a real dumb question thats probably been asked before, but whos a character you REALLY wanted in Smash that was cut?

I finally unlocked all the characters. It took me a while, but in my defense, I'm not very good at this game. Still, it's really fun. I like the new characters, smash run, and classic mode. I haven't tried online mode yet, but I think I'll give it a shot. My friend code is 4184 – 1922 – 7209 (though I probably won't be playing until a few hours from now)

What’s the highest intensity we’ve all beaten Classic mode on?

6.0 is the best I can do without using a continue.

@Foxy

Snake. I know he wasn't likely to return, but he was one of my mains. Not only that, but he was the first third-party character, opening the doors for the likes of Sonic, Mega man, and Pac-Man.

Also, I just beat classic mode on 9.0 intensity with Bowser on my first try. Didn't really have much trouble, acually.

@Foxy
Magnus from Kid Icarus: Uprising, mostly because he was my favorite character from that game and was a total badass. At least he showed up as an assist trophy to raise more awareness to those that didn't play Uprising and may show up in a future installment if he proves to be popular enough. I also hope the Wii U version has his awesome theme song also, as I was also disappointed the 3DS version didn't have that.

Anyways one minor complaint I have for the 3DS version is that the trophies don't list what game they're from, which is something I always liked about the trophies as it would introduce me to more games that I ended up liking.

Krystal has never appeared as playable in any of these games, and nobody has said that she was ever meant to be considered playable at any point.

On another note… How many people here believe that there will be a few characters you can unlock by linking the Wii U version with the 3DS version? I get the feeling there could be, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to beat 9.0-Intensity Master Core, or at least on how to dodge his attacks? I can breeze through the rest of the mode with ease, but I've barely been able to get to his Shadow Clone form.

I used Bowser, with no custom moves, no equipment. Basically, his default. I'll give tips for him.

-Utilize dodging and shielding as much as possible. Not taking damage is crucial, for obvious reasons.
-Use your strongest moves carefully. In Bowsers case, his f-smash or b-air were particular useful for me.
-Use hitstun shuffling, AKA vectoring to your advantage. Don't know what this is? I'll explain it!

Hitstun shuffling allows you to control your knockback slightly. By pointing the circle pad in a certain direction, you'll be able to slightly influence yourself in the direction. For example, if you we launched right, hold left to help quell some of that knockback. In Bowsers case, it's particularly useful because he's a heavy fighter, who are already harder to launch. In tandem with this games larger blast zones, heavy characters are surviving at much higher percentages.

Contrary to popular belief, this mechanic does not exist in previous iterations of Smash Bros.

-Finally, get better. I'm not saying this to insult you. It does take skill! Get to know your character of choice well, and understand what works and what doesn't. Practice is key.

Best of luck!

So I just had something strange happen to me. I just played a 5-minute free-for-all smash on Dream Land. I was playing Ike, the CPU was set to random and picked Greninja, Zelda, and Dark Pit. Things were going very smoothly, I was wrecking shop and really needed to turn up the CPU difficulty.

Until the very end.

If you haven't played on Dream Land, it mimics the original Game Boy Kirby game, changing its shape, background music, and theme according to what stage it's emulating. During the last 30-ish seconds of the game, it decides to finish things off in Dedede's arena. Fitting for the final clash. Then, with about 15 seconds left in the game, the floor just disappears. And doesn't come back. The only thing you could do is stall on the revive platform for as long as possible to avoid self-destructing much. I limited mine to 3, which I guess was fine, seeing as I had 16 KOs, but this struck me as a nasty glitch.

Even the AIs didn't seem to know what to do. They kind spazzed around until they inevitably fell off the stage again. They double jumped, but didn't try an air recovery move, probably because of the lack of any land. It seemed like the game had kind of choked mid-level change, as the background for the arena stayed, but everything else faded out.

Let me know if this happens to any of you. This had the Spoopy Bros. names written all over it.

Sorry for double posting, but there's more!

Take note that these were also found in the game:

EDIT: Also consider that characters now have 8 alt outfits. And that some of the shown Wii U stages are extremely big. (I.E, Palutana's Temple)

EDIT 2: Electric Boogaloo: Take a look at this pic of the of the Wii U version:

Looks like it can fit 4 more characters, right? Well…

Just some food for thought.

Special Orders, Master Orders, Crazy Orders

Hm… it honestly sounds similar to a Simon Says kind of deal. (Or maybe the original names of For Fun and For Glory?)

Ticket Selection

This reminds me of the Plaza Tickets from Streetpass. Maybe it was in the 3ds version but was cut. Maybe it's in the Wii U version as well, who knows…?

Amiibo

Well we already know what this is. It will announce when Amiibo support is added into the game.

Choose a Build, Choose a Mii

I have a feeling these would have been called out when a player would have selected either a Mii or a Custom Fighter. But may have been cut due to redundancy. On the other hand, they could have been used in the customization menu at some point.

Smash World

Ohmanohmanohman Is This going to be the Adventure Mode?? (It will break my heart if it's just the original name to Smash Run)

Boss Battles

Well, if Smash World is an adventure mode, this probably has something to do with it.

Torney, Official Torney, The Champion Is

Tournament Mode it seems. The Official Torney thing interests me.

8 Player Smash, Yellow team

Okay, if this is on the Wii U version I will be REALLY damn hyped. Yellow Team seems to be a necessary thing to add so there can be 4 teams of 2.

Event Match

So just like Melee and Brawl? Alright, good to have back.

Special Match, Grab the Coins

Two returning game modes that I guess are cool to have back.

8 Player Smash and Smash World have me the most interested. Oh man… the hype is resurfacing!

Well, this is interesting. A few months ago, some guy claimed to know about "Smash World" back on September 23rd, ten days after the Japanese release of the game. At that point, nobody could have cracked into the data, so either there's an insider here or he had a very lucky guess.

The post brings up the final five that people have been talking about for quite some time, along with Wonder Red and Isaac, and that a Splatoon DLC pack would come with a new stage and a new item. It claims that Smash World is indeed for the 3DS, but will be added in a patch (presumably once the game comes out), and it also claims that Tower Of Smash is a thing.

Speaking of that, there's a huge post here analyzing both Tower Of Smash leaks; he claims that while the Great Cave Offensive stage is evidence against the leak, he also claims that the leaker could have easily just seen the castle exterior and thought that it was Mount Dedede (and at this point, I'm more inclined to believe that if the leak is real, the guy was just going off of details from stage icons instead of actually translating the names of the stages).

This sounds kind of shady, but it also has some stuff to it that could back it up.

Not exactly certain how somebody can mistake Mt Dedede for the Great Cave Offensive.

I'm saying that because Mt. Dedede uses a LOT of Oranges and Whites in it's hallways and the final room (the section that is considered to be most iconic) is a Boxing Arena. Neither of them being a Castle Exterior. (Actually, if Mt. Dedede was a stage, there is a VERY high chance that it would be a reskin of Little Mac's stage).

So yeah, not going to believe ANYTHING until it comes from Sakurai or there is footage.

I'm also just going to say, Tower of Smash seemed like too much of a rip off from Super Smash Land's Tower of Heaven. However the concept had been adapted into a Game Mode rather than just a Stage for the leak. That's why I never believed that leak from the start.

Last edited Oct 11, 2014 at 06:22AM EDT

@Nats
The Tower of Heaven stage in Smash Land is actually based off of another game of the same name as the stage. You can check it out here. The game plays the same way the stage does with new rules being added that mix up gameplay. I don't really think the two sound all that similar. In fact I think ToS sounds more like the labyrinth gamemode in BlazBlue with there being 100 floors and things change on every floor. All in all, I really hope the leak is real.

I feel you. 9.0 is a breeze for me all the way up to master core. His first 2 forms aren't that bad, but his fucking sword form is the thing that gets me every time. I beat him on 9.0 using Bowser Jr. Just spam his up special, and as you are falling, get him with the hammer attack. This move does a high amount of damage, and it will help you beat the first 3 forms a lot easier. When he becomes his Clone form, if you're at low percentage, just fight normally, if not, keep using either side special, down special, or neutral special to keep the clone away. These 3 moves are good for avoiding damage. If you do all of these things correctly, you should be able to beat him, Good Luck!

I think you guy's just made the new black hole glitch from melee.

Had a nasty glitch happen to me last night. I had a back shield equipped and got hit by some pokemon that warps you to the top of the screen and does a bunch of teleport-cuts through you before, I presume, slamming you to the ground. Well with the back shield, half of its attacks were blocked by it, including the "spike" attack. So I just sorta…floated there. Forever. The bots didn't seem to know what to do, so I eventually just had to quit the match.

EDIT: It was Zoroark that did this.

This is apparently the Wii U starting roster. It's from the official Smash Bros site talking about amiibos.

The only difference between this and the 3DS starting roster is that Ganondorf, Bowser Jr, Ness and Jigglypuff are shown. Only two of them were officially revealed as of this moment.

The pattern of how they're revealing the secret characters seems to be based on the number of vs matches required so next week, we're getting Game & Watch and Bowser Jr. Hopefully there's a trailer for Bowser Jr.

SSB4 Dojo says that the Smash World leak was made up by a user according to sleuths on SmashBoards (the guy had a shady reputation to begin with), although the Tower Of Smash rumor has not been officially debunked as of yet (inconsistencies aside).

I'm not going to hold my breath on Tower of Smash, but it does sound cool, so I'm hopeful.

Intensity 9.0 Master Core is the stuff of nightmares. But with hard work and determination, I was able to beat him with Bowser. I didn't even lose a single life, though I was really close to losing one vs the clone character. I'm by no means an expert at fighting him, but I can offer some general tips for fighting him.

The Humanoid
Humanoid is the biggest target, and when he's not attacking, you can hit him from most on Final Destination. Humanoid's attacks are strong, but they're all easily telegraphed/have long start up. After you fight him enough times and learn his 'tells', you'll know exactly when to shield/block. Two of his attacks used to give me trouble, but I've learned how to avoid them now.

- The first is when he whips his arm across the stage, then a giant streak of… something flies by. The thing is that if you don't dodge at the right moment, you get hit by the tail end of the streak. The easiest way to dodge this is to either leap over the streak, or jump just before he throws his arm across. He tries to have it land directly on you, so if he does it in the air, it'll just fly over head.

- The second is the roar that doesn't do any damage, but has massive pushback. The tell for this is Humanoid making a sort of cringe/fidget with his arms close to his body, similar to when he pulls the second pair of arms out and tries to grab you with them. (I can't point out the exact difference yet. I'll need to practice more and keep a closer eye.) When you see him doing this, get close to him. The closer you are to the edge, the farther you get pushed back, and unless you have good recovery, you won't make it back.

The Chimera (Some call it Scorpion, but aside the tail, I don't see it)
This form I think actually has slightly stronger attacks than Humanoid, but aside one, all of its attacks require it being close or right next to you, to the point where it'll walk from one side of FD to the other in an attempt to get you. I've found the best way to beat Chimera is to treat it kinda like an RPG battle. You attack, then it attacks. Hit it with a smash attack or something else highly damaging, dodge its attack, rinse and repeat.

- The only attack it has with good range is when it causes spikes to sprout out of the ground beneath you. One easy way to dodge is to jump high into the air the moment you see the spikes form beneath Chimera. The spikes only rise so high, and you can whack Chimera on your way down.

The Swords
I hate this form so much, and I doubt I'm the only one. It's not that its attacks do that much damage. They just come out so ridiculously fast and cover a stupid amount of range. You'd think Master Core would be getting weaker as more of the Swarm dies, but the Swords have given me twice as much trouble as any other every time I fight MC. Anyway…

- The attack where the swords pull back and hover to the right of you before blitzing will advance to the left once it starts. Meaning, if the attack starts in the middle of FD and you run to the left edge to avoid, it will eventually catch up to you. However, it doesn't go back to the right once it starts the attack. If you can lure it to the middle of the stage, then run behind it before the attack, it will hover in place swinging at nothing, letting you freely strike at it.

- When the big sword starts charging overhead while the smaller ones try to slice across the stage, sync up with their attacks and dodge against them. If one strikes from left to right, dodge to the left, and vice-versa. The big sword falls a split second after the last little one slices. If you kept your feet on the ground the entire time, the final dodge is pretty easy.

- Though I don't see it use this attack much, the Swords will rise up then make a large slash forward/downward. If you see it rear up, just shield. This attack gives very little room to dodge due to how fast it is, and I've found it far safer to let my shield eat the attack. Be wary though – it will almost completely break your shield, so let go of the button the second the attack ends. Trust me: You do not want to be in a helpless state against the Swords.

The Clone
Because who you fight depends on who you're playing as, there's not much I can offer here. The best way to win is to exploit the weaknesses of the character while playing to his/her strengths.

- For some reason, even at Intensity 9.0, the Clone will happily fall into a fully charged up smash if you stand right beneath them as they form. They don't even dodge.

- Which is highly uncharacteristic, as the Clone loves dodging all over the field at Intensity 9.0. The biggest challenge you'll face as any character is trying to get your clone to hold still long enough for you to actually hit them. If the Clone really is just rolling across the field and doing nothing else, attempt to grab when they get close. Don't bother with pummeling though. CPUs break out of grabs really fast, so just toss the Clone immediately following the grab.

Geez, this got long. Well, I hope this can help anyone who's having trouble with him. Practice really does make prefect, so going against MC at 7.5 or so a few times to learn the ins and outs of his attacks can make a huge difference. Keep at it, and you'll get him at 9.0 eventually.

Special Orders, Master Orders, Crazy Orders

Yeah, I have a feeling it's going to be a bit like Classic Mode with a Simon Says twist (Simon Says Sudden Death. Simon Says Stock Match. Simon Says Giant Battle. Etc). You bet coins to increase the difficulty and get higher returns the more coins you put in. Master Mode would likely be Progressive with a single challenge, and you can pick the challenge type. Crazy would randomize the difficulty and battle type, maybe make the rules only apply to one character or outright change at intervals mid-battle.

Smash World

I think I have a more solid guess as to what this is now. I have a feeling Smash World will be somewhat like a Metroidvania Game, where as you explore a single large dungeon, you will gain the other characters and special moves for all the characters. Well, I guess more like The Great Cave Offensive, where forward progress isn't halted if you skip collecting things. But you still get a handful of boss battles which you unlock for the Boss Battles mode.

Torney, Official Torney, The Champion Is

I actually wonder how Official Torney's will be handled. Will Nintendo issue them over online, or will it be a local mode that forces For Glory rules? There is so many questions I have about this.

8 Player Smash, Yellow team

This is still far more exciting than Tower of Smash could ever be. If this was the ONLY new mode introduced in the Wii U version, I would be very content. A giant damn clusterfuck that would strain the hardware like a guy taking off his glasses, but still fun as hell.

Since when was there a board game mode rumor?

I still think "Tower Of Smash" could still be possible, though, given that the Wii U version is said to have additional content when compared to the 3DS version. I think more modes would set it apart.

But really; Athough they seem to have gone with a "quantiy over quality" mindset and balance would be a big concern with that many characters, I'm not sure of how the game actually plays yet. Though part of why I really liked smash is how many characters there are now along with the "simply to play, yet a lot of room to master." I guess I could download it sometime laterand see for myself if they did it right.

I played it back when it was in 0.8, and from that version… It was okay. I mean, Super Smash Flash 2 is LOADS better than it. Overall, most of the characters feel lazily made. Their sprites and animations look bad, their movesets are bland or unispired. And many of them feel rushed. The gameplay itself is like SSF2, but it feels a bit more slippery and unpolished. But I'm just talking about ver. 0.8, they may have fixed some of these things in 0.9…

Oh right, Super Smash Flash 2 is a thing. I had kinda hoped it would have been out before Smash 4 came out, but oh well.

(Actually, if the next Fighter Factory is going to be Super Smash Flash 2 capeable, that means when the game comes out the next Fighter Factory will come out and then Card Sagas Wars will finally come out… YES)

If you ask me, for those who want to play more of a proper version of Smash, play SSF2. With its beautiful sprites and creative character roster, its for those who want to stick with common ground gameplay. If you want more of an extra boost, play Crusade. WIth a large Character Roster (Including Characters like Duck Hunt Dog before official Smash) and its creative 6 player mode, its for those who want a challenge with new endeavors.

It also revealed there will be a stage that takes place on Wuhu Island itself, and not just the Pilotwings Plane. Actually there are two pictures of it, both of them taking place on the beach.

That's 6 PM where I am. If they're going to reveal anyone I would to say Bowser Jr because based on how the unlockable characters are being revealed, Bowser Jr along with Game & Watch would be next on that list. They most likely made a trailer for him along with DHD.

Though very unlikely, if it's someone that's gonna be in the Wii U version and added in the 3DS version later on, I would prefer it to be someone that was ignored by the fake leakers. Someone like Bandana Dee or if you really want to go out there, Lana.

The function of FLUDD is more of an edge guarding tool than a move that deals actual damage. It's meant to push opponents away from the stage, and decrease their chances of recovering without you (Mario) going off the stage while at risk of getting footstool-ed or getting too far away from the stage for an edge guard and ending up SD-ing. Also, in my opinion, Dr. Mario's down special isn't really that effective of a move to use for offensive or defensive purposes. Also, Dr. MArio's up special travels less distance than Mario's.
While I do say Lucina's balanced fighting style makes her easier to use, it doesn't make her really better than Marth. Marth will always have an easier time getting the kill, not to mention, Marth can fight a little ways away, and still get full damage in; While Lucina can certainly fight either up close or slightly away, she has a lot of trouble securing the kill as her moves aren't all that powerful.
