I woke up a while ago to these news. Gotta say I'm quite impressed by these new characters (well, one new character). Consider me interested Sakurai.
People complaining about clones and I'm just here glad that we are getting new characters soon, and goddamn, Ryu looks OP
Please be a real leak
EDIT: Youtube comments being cancer-inducing as always x) try to not be this kind of people and cherish new content
[10:52:25 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: Roy will get buffed by Smash 4 mechanics: sword range will let him always hit with the sweetspot. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
[10:52:42 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: seriously though he's exactly the same as in Melee this is fucking bullshit
[10:53:15 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: we already have a Marth clone stirring shit and Roy's blade can canonically THROW FIREBALLS
[10:57:03 AM] Setsu: I'll buy him idc
[10:59:50 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: im obligated to buy him since he was my boy
[10:59:54 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: but im still pissed
[11:00:37 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: the only difference he has from Marth aside from inverted sweetspot is that he has the same Not-Side-Smash neutral B
[11:01:00 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: …which is inferior to Ike's neutral B because Ike's has a hitbox behind him
[11:11:53 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: also with ryu being in
[11:12:00 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: this makes two Capcom reps
[11:12:23 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: we need another Namco rep and another Sega rep to rebalance things
[11:12:27 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: LLOYD IRVING FOR SMASH
[11:12:32 AM] Neo New Sawatari mk II: SILVER THE HEDGEHOG FOR SMASH
yay for copypaste laziness
Man Sakurai can't catch a break when it comes to leaks. One day away from the special Smash Direct and already the next DLC characters got leaked.
Koei-Tecmo accidentally dropped the ball on Hyrule Warriors 3DS early due to forgetting to leave the reveal trailer on private after uploading, and now this DLC compatibility patch for Smash got analyzed as quickly as it got downloaded. I'm actually hoping no more leaks happen before Nintendo's E3 Direct, I want some surprises while watching.

Natsuru:
But it would be hilarious if Sakurai was intentionally throwing shit into the game’s files just to screw with us.
I'm not so sure that this isn't actually happening or that it won't happen in the future now.
If Nintendo (or any game company) is aware of people tapping into a game's files or patch files, then they may begin to:
- Plant fake information that will be removed or never used in the actual game as played normally, or
- to the consumer base's detriment, we don't get patches or pre-DLC content until after it's been announced.
I'm afraid the second is likely to begin happening. That's good, because we'll be surprised again. But that's bad, because it's going to slow down the release and playability of certain things.
Well this guy is playing right now with Ryu on the Street Fighter stage I think Etika is watching as well

Ryu has two final smashes… does that mean we're going to get custom Final Smashes in the future?
I'll just repost what I already said on the Smash article's comment section:
To make this whole deal more official: Nintendo’s started removing videos on YouTube that show footage of the leak like when the other leak happened last year.
That’s when you know it’s legit because normally Nintendo rarely ever outright has videos removed from YouTube, usually at worst it’s just a copyright claim that prevents monetization unless you’re part of a YouTube network (doesn’t have to be Nintendo’s, could be Maker or the like) and not a video removal, but yeah usually when they remove any videos it’s because it contains footage they didn’t want released to the public yet.
I kinda feel like some people on YouTube were probably being maybe TOO ballsy posting leak videos there because you know Nintendo can just remove the videos like any other company that didn't want footage to get leaked early. Etika played it smart by censoring the reveals so he wouldn't have this problem, but now I'm wondering if some people posted this footage just to have a reason to complain when Nintendo removes the videos because one channel that posted leak footage is trying to claim Nintendo is "censoring their free speech" when no this doesn't have to do with that, and they're using a rather tired excuse of "BUT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT!!!" (specifically it's a channel called "Game Chap" and I seriously can't tell if the accents of these guys are real or not)

Question: Is anybody already done with this leaks, i mean, they are killing the surprise factor in Smash and great part of the people wants to see the Directs and the E3 with that feel of emotion.
Now with this leaks is more like: "Meh, yeah Roy and Ryu is in the game…"
In thoses days is really hard keep secrets about future DLC or content in any videogame and sites like Gamexplain (And i know that 4chan and 8chan too) for example (The goddamn thumbnail), now the emotion of the Smash presentation of tomorrow is ruined thanks of this (again, just like when the whole roster was announced)
That's it, i want surprises no leaks, they kill the hype and transform a nice surprise of Sakurai in a Shitstorm discussing about the characters.
Luckily, some people have spoiler warnings on those videos.

So I watched ALL of the trailers, and needless to say, I'm amazed.
My only problem: Why is it always Lucas getting punched in those trailers!?
So right now I'm trying Ryu and his moves. Since I'm a complete scrub, I suck at inputs.

i think he just lost 10K subscriber cause of this
I have to say I'm in a love/hate relationship with Ryu's play style in Smash. While I'm happy with the actual Street Fighter inputs being used, I often end up pressing other buttons instead of A and B due to my preference in Street Fighter's controls and play style over Smash's. Other than that I absolutely love playing as Ryu. I also think Sakurai might have been influenced by the Game Boy version of Street Fighter 2, as it used a similar play style of different lengths of holding or pressing a button would result in various different levels of punches and kicks thanks to the limited button usage of the Game Boy.
Alright, so after playing with Ryu online, I can say that I really like using him; you kind of play with him like you would Little Mac (stick to the ground, make full use of all the different standard attacks he can pull off). I still can't input the Shoryuken or the Shakunetsu Hadouken correctly though.

WAIT WHAT.
I've tried Ryu. He's…hmm. His play style feels halfway between a Street Fighter character and a Smash Bros. character, which makes sense. It was awkward for me and I had trouble deciding if I should use the full inputs or not. Ryu seems like a very technical character with a diverse moveset. I imagine one could have a lot of success with him after much practice, but I don't think I have the patience.
So…um…despite my above post, I just played my first ever For Fun match with Ryu and immediately won. So, I guess that means I like him now.

I bought Ryu and Roy, plus Dreamland (64). Gotta say, with the wiiu screen/gamepad thing, can't pull off a hadouken without using the B. Hell, killed myself 3 times, trying to do the fire hadouken, but I kept tornadoe kicking off the screen. Good thing this was up against my brother who also wanted to test Ryu.
Roy is alright. Mix between Marth and Ike. Kind of. Lacks Ike's strength, but at least he deals fire damage. I was never good with any of the fire emblem characters, anyways. Except robin. I do pretty decent with her. (Play Male robin? Nah, Female red haired robin with twin tails.)
Back to Ryu, got to get more used to him. He is fun to play as. Probably gonna be a bitch to fight against when it comes to good players. Then again, all online matches I ever do is "For Fun". Personally, I hate 1 vs 1 battles. But, eh, I'm a casual, so what can I say.
Last time I took anything seriously, WoW PvP, I became rabid and my mom thought the game was making me violent, because it has "war" in it. No, FUCKING DYING TO A FUCKING FROST MAGE IS A BITCH MOM! Ahem, sorry about that. War flash backs.

Yep, it happen.
It quite irks me to see people talk shit about Shantae since the Smash Ballot was announced. I’m not talking about those who are nice about it, I’m talking about the ones being dicks about this.
“Who the fuck is Shantae?! No way in hell an obscure character is getting into Smash!”
Well, when you played Melee, did you know who Marth and Roy were? And have you even played her games?
“She’s indie, so too bad, so sad!”
Well, that’s a good reason for her to be in Smash. Smash can get it’s first indie fighter, especially an indie that’s been with Nintendo for over 10 years.
“She’s never been in Japan!”
As with Marth and Roy, we never got Fire Emblem until Melee was released in the US. And Japan also got Risky’s Revenge and Pirate’s Curse via Steam. Plus, Pirate’s Curse and Half-Genie Hero are co-developed by Inti Creates, a Japanese company. And Ken Sugimori, Pokémon’s art director and designer, is a fan of the series!
“She’s only being voted because fanservice and fap-material.”
Sakurai did say other DLC will be fanservice, but fap-material?! You never made those arguments for ZS Samus, Palutena, etc. And if we’re talking clothes, ZS Samus and Shulk have some pretty revealing alt costumes, and if they choose Shantae they can just make her bust a bit smaller and cover her up a bit.
“If Shantae gets in, my character won’t get in!”
Who says there’s only going to be one ballot winner?! Sakurai said DLC will be fanservice, so there can be more than one chosen for Smash.
If you don’t want Shantae in Smash, that’s fine. Just don’t be a huge dick about the situation.

Never cared about the Smash Ballot really, mostly because no matter which character I want in Smash, they won't make it in when people bandwagon behind other characters (not saying any of them are undeserving of the chance).

Ah, the voting dilemma. You get a voice, but you won't make others screaming beside you any louder, and it won't help to drown out any opposing views.
Fortunately, I see voting as only part of making your voice heard. Here on the Internet, you can sometimes convince the neutral person to see your point of view. It's less about getting them to believe how you believe, because a lot of people won't acknowledge that in the middle of a discussion even if they did. It's more about how that person interacts with others as well and simply won't shoot down opinions like yours, because they heard your good reasons.
It becomes a sort of "hype." Think of a movie that you read about online, and all you read is positive things. Well, a character for Smash can get similar hype, and your voice and discussion will be read by several lurkers who may go on to participate in discussions with others. That will turn into some votes, but the impression it leaves on the Internet is probably the bigger thing. It's not the biggest site, but KYM is a well-known site on the web. We document Internet phenomena like no one else.
Who's to say that one of Sakurai's underlings who's literate in English won't come here and have the thought of Shantae in his or her mind and communicates that to Sakurai? But that may only happen if KYM, say Reddit, 4chan, and other sites they visit give her some due.
Of course, you may not like Shantae for Smash, but I do. Cute character, developers (and the voice actress) who are all over the idea of her being in Smash, loyal to Nintendo across 3 (and soon to be 4) games that Nintendo can cash in on further, and her moves and style translates well to the Nintendo universe.
There are bigger (Shovel Knight) and more iconic (Quote) indie icons out there, and Shantae is a Western creation.

Well, taking Japanese characters that is obscure to the West and putting them into a Japanese game with Japanese developers is entirely different from taking a Western character that's obscure to Japan and putting her into a Japanese game with Japanese developers.
Japanese creators will be making the decision. They, themselves, already knew Marth and Roy from Fire Emblem, because it's a long-running and moderately successful series. But Shantae, despite having a game or two released in Japan, isn't a Japanese icon.
But even still, if there was a Western, indie character added, I think it'd be among:
Shovel Knight, who's had massive success for any video game,
Quote, who's large enough in Japan and made indie games more visible,
or Shantae, who isn't as popular or iconic as the other two, but is likely to be more appealing to the average Japanese gamer who knows little to nothing about any of them.
(And I still maintain that she has the best potential for a fun and competitive moveset that's true to her original games without having to stretch for something that doesn't make sense or is part of the game. Much like Mega Man, she has tons of variety for any move you could think of. A dancing evasive maneuver, dancing to transform, hair whips of all sorts for standard attacking or grappling, aerial kicks, dash attacks, and then a bunch of "pirate" weapons…a cannon for multiple jumps, a hat to drift down for recovery, a pistol for long range attacking, a sword for a dashing attack or Forward+B…she even has two different idle animations: one where she sorta bounces in place and one where she dances to and fro when she's at full health; a detail that Sakurai would probably want to incorporate and would like should she be fortunate enough to be in the game.)
Super Smash Bros. has been nominated for Best Video Game at the People's Choice Awards
Here's the voting poll
I know awards don't mean shit, especially round the Internet, but since this is the People's Choice Awards, you get to decide on who gets the award. If you want, go ahead and vote for Smash
I play the goddamned destroyer of worlds in Smash

I think it would be awesome that once all the DLC characters have been release, they update the game to add an Event Match where you have to fight all the DLC characters.

Hey guys.
I decided to do a 99-minute Smash game out of sheer boredom.
And the game decided I should suffer the whole of it with top-tier CPUs.

Ladies & Gentlemen, with 10 minutes (at te time of this post) to the final broadcast, I wish to say it will be an honor and privilge to experiance the hype along side you all
OUT OF NOWHERE
And so, Bayonetta takes the crown of God-Empress of the Ballot.
I'm glad that Bayonetta got in. I'm also glad at the level of detail put into Bayonetta's moveset.
Bayonetta totally made up for no K. Rool. She also softened and completely eradicated the blow I felt at the beginning of Corrin being announced as a playable character.
Bayonetta totally made up for no K. Rool. She also softened and completely eradicated the blow I felt at the beginning of Corrin being announced as a playable character.
Corrin is a bit upsetting for me.
- More FE representation. Yeah, I get it. You want to sell your game. Yes, you're probably a little concerned that people aren't going to want to buy 2-3 versions of a game that's largely similar to Awakening in more ways than
one (looks and design)two (customizable avatar)three (Shipping: The Game: The Sequel. And sure, the character plays different from the other swordfighters. I'm sure he/she was extremely well-developed.- But now you have Roy, Ike, Marth/Lucina, Robin, and Corrin. I'm not sore just based on the overrepresentation, but I would have liked to have seen a different character from a different series.
- And moreso for me, a Fire Emblem fan, I now know a ton about the character's origins that I didn't before. And this isn't like when Sheik was spoiled from Melee, because that came out long after OoT. But short of learning to speak Japanese, I wouldn't have had any idea about Corrin (I didn't even know the standard name was Corrin,) and I don't think the partial-Dragon lineage was known from the trailers we've seen.
I'm not thrilled about the character, but I'm even more upset about the spoilers. If you had to reach into that part for Corrin, then I think it would have been best to choose a different character. I understand that Corrin is the best choice for Fates (like Cloud was the best choice to represent all of Final Fantasy,) but if there was no one else, I would have preferred a different character.
…no fvcking complaints about Bayonetta tho.
- Popular choice in Europe (thank you, Europeans…God bless you…) and even in the States.
- Adds a strong female, protagonist character (just for the sake of variety, not any token reasoning or anything)
- T&A
- T&A
- T&A
- But isn't this too sexy for Nintendo to put in a Smash Bros. gafuck you tittays and buttocks!
- T&A
- T&A
- It also makes sense from a sales point-of-view and to sorta "thank" Platinum for making a great game that undersold on the Wii U. I knew Bayonetta/2 were good games, but I never had anything to "push me over the edge." I can't imagine moves with "climax" in them won't "push me over the edge" (if you know what I mean and I think you do). I hope it gets a lot more Wii U owners to consider getting the game(s) if they like them.
- The moveset looks like a lot of fun and looks really unique and fun to make. At this point in the game, I think Sakurai and his crew needed characters they were going to really enjoy working on.
At this point, with so many fighters, I have no complaints with the roster. There were bound to be additions I didn't like, and Corrin is only one of a few. I do wish the modes were different (I'd switch the older Classic modes for this current one in a heartbeat as well as even the generic Target games for the current bomb game.)
But Smashing is always going to be the crux of the game, and that's as fun as ever.
Good job, Sakurai and team. Please take a break/retire before you die. Don't worry about making another Smash. Leave it to someone else. There's a lot of fun to be had in Smashing in this one for at least until later in the NX's cycle.
I was hoping for Simon Belmont, though I accepted that his chances were near nil, so his absence doesn't bother me.
Bayonetta is undoubtedly cool to have, not my first choice, but cool nonetheless.
Corrin… Well… I guess the nicest way to put it is "meh".

General Reactions:
Part 1 (Corrin): "Oh come on Sakurai…"
Part 2 (Cloud): "Alright, pretty cool. We already knew a lot about this, but alright."
Part 3 (Mii Costumes): Okay, honestly, this part needs a bit bigger of an explanation. I have historically despised the shitposting faggots who have demanded Geno like a spoiled brat for the past 10 years. They got what they fucking deserved. Ashley posters to a lesser extent.
Part 5 (Amiibo): "Okay, shut up with your mindless marketing. I'm still recovering."
Ho hum. Corrin doesn't appeal to me and we already five Fire Emblem Characters. I know Bayonetta will excite a lot of people, but I've never played either of those games and I wish a character like K. Rool or an Inkling had been picked from the ballots.

Guess that I'm in the minority here when I say that I actually found Corrin's announcement pretty exicting to me, much more because of his moveset then well…
…Being a representation of a FE game that got its release in japan months before other localizations even started, which is just really ridiculous considering it's hype as a successor to Awakening.
But I digress. Because I'll personally be having a lot of fun playing my half-prince half-water-dragon that others won't care about on the same month that everyone else will feel their reproductive system thoroughly explode multiple times in quick succession on Bayonetta's entrance to smash, and I won't deny that bayonetta is simply a irrefutable badass here; those elaborate combos and bullet arts are going to be a hell of a lot of fun…
…For me to fight while I main Corrin, I'll talk more about him later while the rest of you get justified hype for bayonetta.
I thought Corrin was seriously the ballot character.
My sodium levels went up.
Then, they announced ONE LAST CHARACTER:
I was about to go write angry reviews to my fedora-clad bretheren but then Bayonetta showed up.
When Corrin was announced I started thinking the ballot was the mii costumes like everyone was joking about. But really we got 2 ballot characters, Cloud was #1 in Japan and Bayonetta was #1 in Europe (and #5 in the US). I'm satisfied with the end result, but I'm kind of disappointed that there aren't gonna be any more characters.
Full thoughts on Final Smash Presentation (mostly for the two character reveals):
Corrin
While I’m excited for him/her, I will admit he’s a weird choice. First, I will agree that I feel there’s enough Fire Emblem representation as is. And second, Fates is more recent than Splatoon, and that’s why I predicted/prefered Inklings--Splatoon had reached just enough praise and popularity, especially since it’s reveal in E3 2014, that I was expecting them to be DLC. Nope, we pretty much got another case of Roy.
Again, I’m still excited for Corrin mostly because his gameplay makes up for what I mentioned above. Plus, I’m also excited for Fire Emblem Fates.
Bayonetta
When I saw the trailer, I thought it was gonna be Viridi or Hades. While it’s not who I wanted (you all know who I wanted), but Bayonetta did deserve it. I haven’t played Bayonetta, but I’ve seen enough gameplay to know what she’s capable of, and my god she looks like tons of fun! Congrats Bayonetta, maybe next time Shantae and Inklings.
Only thing I’m disappointed with: no One Winged Angel in the Midgar stage!

I have to say, I'm not disappointed by anything whatsoever. Corrin is hype incarnate for me because DRAGON BOY and sieg Nohr, but BAYONETTA OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE.
This game is absolutely perfect. The only things I'd ever ask for is One Winged Angel and Snake, and even then, its perfect without them!

So it has been revealed. My thoughts on?
Bayonetta is an excellent choice. Honestly I didn't expect her due Hideki Kamiya, but I'm still glad that she's got in. Loved it how she talked to Pit and Palutena in the trailer.
About Corrin….eh nothing anything special. Better than some of the other choices, but no intereset in that character.
All of my hype is going to Bayonetta
In conclusion: I'm impressed.
