About

Lolicon, a portmanteau of Lolita Complex, refers to a fetish and complex in which a person is attracted to fictional prepubescent girls, usually called "lolis." Lolicon is often portrayed in various Japanese media, such as anime, manga and doujinshi.

History

The term "lolicon" comes from a portmanteau of "lolita complex" that originated from Vladimir Nabokov's 1955 book Lolita, which he completed on December 6th, 1953 (shown below).[1] The term was used for the first time in Japan in the 1970s. Later on, the term then started to be used on manga doujinshi to describe erotic stories about young girls.[2]

In Western culture, Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film Lolita, an adaptation of Nabokov's novel, was another noteworthy development of lolicon outside of Japan (trailer seen below).[3] The film went on to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 35th Academy Awards.

Shotacon

Shotacon, a portmanteau of Shotaro Complex, is the same kind of attraction that exists in lolicon but applied to fictional prepubescent boys, usually referred to as "shotas."[4]

Delicious Flat Chest

Delicious Flat Chest, often abbreviated as DFC, is a term used in anime communities to describe someone's taste in breast size. Similar to the term "Pettanko," which translates to "flat" and is also a slang term for a "flat-chested woman." The term also developed itself to become associated with other derogatory terms related to small breasts, such as "washboards" and "cutting boards."
