5 More Minutes, You're So Warm or Honey, I Need to Go Do X refers to webcomic "Every Morning" by comic artist Yehuda Devir in which a woman sits on her partner's back and asks him to not to go for five more minutes. In September 2020, the webcomic gained popularity as source material for edits, with the answer said by the man is humorously altered.
Origin
On February 23rd, 2017, artist Yehuda Devir posted a comic in his One of Those Days series titled "Every Morning," based on his married life. In the comic (website version shown below), a woman is sitting on a man's back, hugging him and asking him not to go for five more minutes. The man puts on his pants and responds that he needs to go to work. The comic received over 2,300 likes on the artist's website[1] and over 157,000 likes on Instagram[2] in three years.
Spread
While actively circulated online between 2017 and 2020, the comic did not see use as source material for memes until September 2020. Prior to September 19th, an unknown user posted the earliest known edit of the comic, with the man's reply altered to "Honey, I Need to go own the libs on twitter.com." On September 21st, 2020, Instagram[3] user trash_man_john made the earliest found repost of the image (shown below), gaining over 10,700 likes in one month.
Following the viral spread of the original edit, the comic started gaining popularity in memes on Instagram and Twitter. On September 19th, 2020, Instagram[4] user dankdawkins posted the earliest found derivative of the meme (shown below, left), gaining over 560 likes in one month. A September 21st, 2020, edit by Twitter[5] user @Riveyun received 30 retweets and over 120 likes (shown below, right).
In the following weeks, the format maintained notable popularity online, with viral edits being posted on Instagram,[6] Facebook,[7] Twitter[8] and other sites.
