Origin

On December 17th, 2024, X^[1] account @LegionHoops posted a Sports Quote Card based on a Polymarket prediction that sports commentator Mike Breen would say "BANG" with a 63 percent chance during the NBA Cup Final that night. The card showed a photograph of Breen captioned with the text "63% chance to bang". The post (shown below) garnered over 5.8 million views, 710 reposts, and 16,000 likes in three days.

Later that day, X^[2] user @AdamThaSportFan quoted the post, writing, "This graphic got potential". The post (shown below) received over 5,200 reposts and 126,000 likes in three days.

Spread

In the following days, the macro saw spread on X / Twitter as users posted caption memes which exploited the word "bang" having multiple meanings.

For example, on December 18th, 2024, X^[3] user @SoulSurVGC posted a Pokémon meme based on the format that received over 60 reposts and 1,200 likes in two days (shown below).

More memes based on the graphic, many of them using it in a suggestive way, were shared by users on X / Twitter in mid-December 2024.
