Among Us Musical refers to an _Among Us musical number from a YouTube Rewind video by YouTuber Michelle Khare. Following the viral spread of the video on YouTube and Twitter, it became a popular subject of ironic jokes online.

Origin

On December 10th, 2020, YouTuber^[1][2] Michelle Khare uploaded "YouTube Rewind 2020: The Musical," a musical parody of YouTube's annual YouTube Rewind series. (reupload shown below, left). The video contained a number of musical numbers dedicated to notable 2020 trends, including a two-minute Among Us-themed number which also featured parodies of several popular streamers and creators who played the game (reupload shown below, right). The video received over 190,000 views in two days prior to being made private by the YouTuber on December 12th.

Spread

On December 11th, 2020, Michelle Khare posted^[3][4] a link to the video on Twitter, later deleting the tweet. On the same day, Twitter^[5][6] users @Xploshi, @opalartsy and others quote retweeted the video and criticizing it (example tweets shown below). On December 12th, 2020, Redditor^[7] Skybots10 reuploaded the Among Us musical number to /r/Cringetopia subreddit, where it gained over 5,300 upvotes in two weeks.

On December 13th, 2020, Redditor^[8] PureOkra1 posted the earliest found meme featuring video from the video to /r/okbuddyretard, gaining over 700 upvotes in two weeks. On December 14th, 2020, Twitter^[9] user @RollsSucy posted a GIF Caption meme that received over 4,000 retweets and 29,100 likes in two weeks (shown below).

Starting in mid-December 2020, ironic memes about the musical number gained viral popularity on Twitter, Reddit and iFunny. For example, on December 19th, 2020, Redditor^[10] TheChefBoyardeeCan posted a meme that received over 10,600 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in ten days.
