About
Impostor of the Vent refers to a series of memes based on a two-panel image between a Red crewmate and a Black impostor of the multiplayer game Among Us. Identical in its premise to Panzer of the Lake, the format gained popularity on Reddit in September 2020.
Origin
On September 3rd, 2020, YouTuber[6] Matongchi posted an Among Us-themed Monkey Circle meme that received over 137,400 views in three weeks (shown below). A September 6th, Twitter[7] reupload of the meme by user @Fuckthepain_received over 373,400 views, 16,100 retweets and 48,000 likes in the same period.
On September 16th, 2020, Redditor[1] Riyolen posted a Panzer of the Lake meme format based two still images from Matongchi''s video. In the meme, Red crewmate asks Black impostor to share his wisdom, with the impostor replying with a curious observation. The post (shown below) received over 56,700 upvotes in /r/dankmemes in one week.
Spread
On the same day, Redditor[2] KrispyBudder posted the first derivative meme based on the format to /r/memes, with the post gaining over 41,000 upvotes in one week (shown below, left). A September 17th, 2020, post by Redditor[3] wcslater garnered over 43,000 upvotes in the same period (shown below, right).
Following the spread of the viral posts, the format gained popularity on Reddit in mid-September 2020, with notable examples of the meme being posted in /r/dankmemes, /r/memes and other subreddits. The format also spread to Twitter,[4] Facebook[5] and other online platforms.

Senpai of the Pool
Senpai of the Pool or Sempai of the Pool refers to a two-panel format featuring the main character of the Magical Sempai anime series submerged in a swimming pool, with her assistant asking her for her wisdom. The format is a reference to Panzer of the Lake format and gained popularity in August 2019.
