About

Goth AOC is a photoshopped image of American Congresswoman and politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the face of a goth model, erroneously thought by some to be AI-generated. The image went viral in January and February 2024 as people expressed that they found the image attractive, many reacting to it with 'would' reaction images.

Origin

It's unclear where the image of "Goth AOC" originated, but it appears to have first started spreading online in October 2023. On October 23rd, 2023, TikTok user teerex554_05 posted a TikTok ogling Goth AOC, gaining nearly 100 likes in three months (shown below).

On October 25th, the image was posted to Twitter / X by user @G0DDAMNITJEREMY,[1] gaining 5 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below).



The photoshop edit is based on a photo of a real-life goth model that goes by the handle @contesacneajna (shown below). While the exact photo is not on her Instagram page, a different picture of her in the outfit does exist there.[2]



Spread

The photo was reposted to Twitter by user @G0DDAMNITJEREMY[3] on January 28th, 2024, and it began spreading on the site over the following several days. On January 30th, it was reposted by Twitter user @TheRoyalSerf,[4] gaining over 70 retweets and 600 likes in two days. The same day, it was posted by user @KingLibertarian[5] alongside Blonde AOC, asking Which Way?, gaining over 90 retweets and 680 likes in two days (shown below).

As the picture spread, some commented on it thinking it was AI-generated. On January 31st, Twitter user @Howlingmutant0[6] joked about how Goth AOC proved AI could make attractive women, gaining over 230 retweets and 3,300 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also that day, user @helen_mrow[7] used the Skull Cow meme to joke about "AI Goth AOC," gaining 10 likes in one day (shown below, right).
