About

As Per My Last Email refers to a catchphrase and viral image macro meme featuring a man doing punches in the air alongside the phrase "As per my last email" reinforcing his message, which is often used in corporate lingo as a form of passive-aggressive language. Although memetic content using the phrase can be tracked to August 2019, the image with the punching man was first posted on Reddit in March 2022 and is often used online as a reaction image for content related to work or the corporate environment.

Origin

The phrase "As per my last email," which is a passive-aggressive reply typically used in corporate emails, first started to be featured in memetic content in 2019, with one of the earliest viral examples being posted on Reddit[1] by user @PoonSwoggle. The image features a missile with the phrase "As per my last email" scratched in it (seen below, top), which amassed more than 37,000 upvotes and 394 comments in five years.

On March 19th, 2022, Redditor[2] @TheRoach used the catchphrase alongside a stock image drawing of a man doing boxing punch movements to reiterate the passive-aggressive tone in the email. The post (seen below, bottom) received roughly 575 upvotes and 10 comments in two years.

The image macro was widely shared on social media over the following years, like the Facebook[3] page @goldfmfiji post on September 1st, 2022, captioning the image as "If emails had a tone." The post (seen below, left) did not receive a large amount of engagement.

On November 15th, LinkedIn[4] user @david-j-neal then posted the "as per my last email" meme accompanied by the caption, "There's nothing passive about passive aggression." The post (seen below, right) garnered over 300 likes and nearly 10 reposts in two years.
