About
Atlantic Ocean Redraws refers to a series of fan art in which the contour of the Atlantic ocean is used as an outline for various figures, most often human bodies. Inspired by a viral tweet, the trend gained moderate presence on social media in January 2021.
Origin
On January 23rd, 2021, Twitter[1] user @AntrhoPoniesSFM posted a two-panel image in which they drawn a large-breasted female body within the contour of the Atlantic ocean. The post received over 34,300 retweets, 6,400 quote tweets and 260,000 likes in five days (censored version shown shown below).
Spread
In the following days, @AntrhoPoniesSFM' image received viral spread online. A January 24th, 2021, repost by Twitter[2] account images that might be cursed (@mightbecursed) received over 880 retweets and 8,900 likes in four days. On January 25th, Redditor[3] Chara1979 reposted the image to /r/rickandmorty subreddit, where it gained over 16,400 upvotes.
In the following days, the image inspired more similarly executed redraws of the Atlantic ocean done by other users. For example, on January 24th, 2021, Twitter[4] user @relateddude posted a redraw that received over 640 retweets and 7,900 likes in four days (censored version shown below, left). A January 25th Lady Dimitrescu drawing by Twitter[5] user @kaellzor gained over 2,300 retweets and 15,100 likes in three days (shown below, right).
The trend maintained a moderate presence on social media in the following days, with the drawings being circulated on all major platforms.
