About
Ayo Hol Up (also known as "Smacks Lips Profusely") refers to a copypasta featuring several racial stereotypes about African American people. The copypasta has been heavily associated with the expression “WE WUZ KINGZ” and the Alberto Barbosa ilustration.
Origin
The earliest reference to the copypasta comes from a thread on 4chan's television and film board /tv/ submitted on July 18th, 2015, mocking Will Smith's performance of the antihero Deadshot on the trailer from the upcoming Suicide Squad film adaptation. During the following days, several posts modified the original,[2][3][4] until a post from July 22nd that included several African American stereotypes.[6]

After the post featuring stereotypes, the original copypasta was adapted to other actors, being one of the earliest ones a reference to the comedian and actress Leslie Jones, mocking her character in the upcoming The Ghostbusters remake, on a post from July 23rd.[7] The next day, a version featuring the comedian Wyatt Cenac was submitted as a reference to a discussion he had with the comedian Jon Stewart due an impression of the businessman Herman Cain.[8] On July 27th, a /tv/ user posted the version that later would become the most popular.[9][10]
On July 23rd, YouTuber captain kurisu uploaded a video recording of a /tv/ user reading the original copypasta, gaining over 4,200 views in the next months. On September 26th, a post from 4chan's politically incorrect board /pol/ mixed the original copypasta with the catchphrase “WE WUZ KINGZ”, used to mock the Black Egyptian Hypothesis.[11] However, that version of the copypasta remained dormant until November 20th, when a thread featuring the copypasta was made.[12] On October 26th, reddit user breadfag posted the "WE WUZ KINGS" version on /r/copypasta, gaining over 40 points (98% upvoted) in the following four months.[13] On November 27th, YouTuber kingz'n'shieet uploaded a video titled "HOL UP * smacks lips *", featuring an audio clip with the Age of Empires II 's Berber king in the background, associated with the Alberto Barbosa meme. The video got over 5,300 views in the following months.
