Ayumu and Anata On the Couch or Anime Girl Pinned On Couch is a series of exploitable memes made using Love Live! fan art by Pixiv artist Itsuki Kuro depicting Ayumu pinning Anata to a couch. The meme uses Ayumu and Anata's positions on the couch as a means of object labeling, with Ayumu representing something dominant and Anata representing something submissive. The artwork was posted online in 2020 and became an increasing subject of memes over the following years.
Origin
On March 1st, 2020, Pixiv[1] artist Itsuki Kuro (伊月クロ) posted a piece of Love Live! fan art depicting Ayumu pinning Anata to a couch, the implication being that they're hooking up, garnering over 12,000 likes and 120,000 views in four years (shown below).
The earliest known meme to use the image was posted by Tumblr[2] user mosasadogs on February 25th, 2021, in which Ayumu is labeled "girls who are annoying" and Anata is labeled "girls who think it's cute," garnering over 19,000 notes in three years (shown below). The meme is captioned, "Filed under stolen from twitter," although the original Twitter post is not linked.
Spread
On February 26th, 2021, now-deleted X[3] user @noleftairpod posted a new version of the meme in which Ayumu is labeled "girls who say 'stop apologizing.'" On March 4th, Instagram[4] user sin_aesthetix posted a version of the meme that was reposted to /r/me_irlgbt[5] in October 2023, garnering over 80 likes on the former in three years and 5,900 upvotes on the latter in three months (shown below, left). On May 12th, 2021, u/PIeasant posted a version of the meme to /r/Animemes[6] that gained over 5,500 upvotes in three years (shown below, right).
On February 2nd, 2024, Redditor u/lobin_loko posted a version of the meme to /r/y--imemes,[7] garnering over 1,200 upvotes in three days. On February 4th, u/TimeStorm113 posted a version of the meme to /r/PeterExplainsTheJoke[8] to ask for more context about the meme, garnering over 500 upvotes in a day (shown below).
