About
Banned From Roblox or Roblox Bans refers to a series of screenshots of the ban warning on Roblox that appear when your account has been suspended, banned or deactivated for breaking the terms of service, which shows the exact reason for the ban in a text box. Screenshots of subjectively unfair or funny bans, often caused by the game's auto-ban bot, have spread online since the early 2010s, as well as comedic photoshops of bans that edit the reason.
Origin
Roblox's ban system is often criticized for unfairly banning users, as well as refusing to fix bans after the fact.[1] One of the earliest posts complaining about a Roblox ban was posted to Meme Center[2] in 2013 by user recyclebin and shows a Slovakian user who got banned for a title post on the Roblox forum, then got banned again for complaining that the ban is unfair (shown below).
Spread
On February 4th, 2014, Know Your Meme[3] user counter posted a screenshot of a three-day ban form from Roblox saying the user was banned for trying to encourage users to use the Buddhist reversed swastika (卍) symbol in order to allegedly spread Buddhism (shown below).
On February 14th, 2015, Know Your Meme[7] user Dan Axleer uploaded an image of a ban warning showing they were banned for a discussion on Albert Einstein in the "off-topic" forum section, considering it unfair (shown below, left) On July 14th, Imgur[4] user gabrielcatdog posted a three-day ban warning showing they were banned for posting an image of a cartoon topless woman with swastikas painted on her breasts, gaining over 3,600 views in six years (shown below, right).
Banned Memes
Roblox has banned a number of memes from the site.[8] On January 5th, 2019, YouTuber greenlegocats123 posted a video about how they got banned for posting Ugandan Knuckles, explaining that Roblox has completely banned the meme from their site because they believe the meme is racist (shown below, left). The video gained over 100,000 views in two years. On January 15th, YouTuber SharkBlox posted a video uploading a number of memes onto Roblox character T-shirts to see what would get banned, including surprised Pikachu, That's How Mafia Works and Big Chungus. After some time, he received a three-day ban for the Big Chungus shirt for hate speech (shown below, right).
PewDiePie Banned
In February 2019, PewDiePie was incorrectly banned from Roblox because his name included "PewDie."[9] He posted a video about the ban on February 12th, 2019, gaining over 10 million views in two years and causing increased backlash towards Roblox's moderation team.
Afterward, the Roblox team lifted the ban and released a statement explaining what happened, which reads as follows:
"Roblox is committed to providing a safe and civil platform for our players, including blocking memes that represent or are synonymous for behaviour that falls outside of our community standards. In December, 'pewdie' became one of these negative memes on Roblox. As such, we began blocking the creation of new usernames that incorporated the term. The legacy account that PewDiePie used in his Livestream was incorrectly banned as part of the administration of this policy."
Continued Spread
There are numerous "banned from Roblox" formats available on ImgFlip's Meme Generator,[5][6] including one that looks like the original ban notice and one that looks like 2021's redesign. The formats have seen considerable use on the site, resulting in a number of fake ban notices (examples shown below, left and right).
On October 13th, 2021, YouTuber Kangaroo posted a video where he speedruns getting banned on Roblox in celebration of their new guidelines (shown below). He ends up getting his account deleted in nine minutes and 12 seconds. The video gained over 53,000 views in a month.
