About

Big Stewie in a Suit is an image of Family Guy character Stewie Griffin wearing a blue striped suit as a portly adult in a cutaway gag. Starting in November 2019, the scene has been used as source material for remixes and caption memes.

Origin

On July 18th, 2000, episode two titled "The Story on Page One" of season two of the animated television series Family Guy premiered in the United States.[1] In one cutaway gag in the episode, Stewie, now a grown adult of a portly stature, is the owner of a plus-size clothing store Stewie's Big and Tall. On February 23rd, 2016, YouTube user Cutaway Guy uploaded the scene, with the upload garnering over 1.4 million views in seven years (shown below).

Tired of not being able to find clothes that fit? I know I was.

Prior to November 2019, the scene saw limited presence in memes. For example, on January 24th, 2019, the Facebook[2] page Peter Griffin Memes as an Abstract Art Form posted a That's How Mafia Works meme that included a still image from the scene and received over 320 reactions and 130 shares in roughly four years (shown below).

Prior to November 17th, 2019, an unknown user posted a video edit in which a still image of Stewie was set to a bass line and with various visual effects applied. On November 17th, 2019, iFunny[3] user shrexy_shrock made the earliest found reupload of the video (shown below).

Spread

On January 9th, 2020, YouTube[4] user Eduardo made another reupload that garnered over 68,000 views in three years.

The image achieved more popularity in memes through late 2020 after an unknown user paired it with the song "Suit & Tie" by Justin Timberlake. For example, on September 29th, 2020, Instagram[5] user @sirdigess posted a meme about Discord Mods based on this version of the meme that gained over 1,300 views and 320 likes in one week and was widely circulated online in the following months (shown below).

The image and remixes maintained moderate popularity as a caption and shitposting format in the following years.
