Billie Eilish's Tank Top Photos refer to a series of photographs of singer Billie Eilish taking a stroll in Los Angeles while wearing shorts and a tank top. The photographs ignited a viral debate after a user on Twitter was accused of body shaming the singer, while the images have been used to make humorous edits.


On October 12th, 2020, a number of media outlets[1][2][3] published photographs of singer Billie Eilish during a stroll in Los Angeles originally distributed by The Mega Agency (one photograph shown below).



On October 12th, several threads about the photographs were made on 4chan's /tv/ and other boards, with users criticizing Billie Eilish's body. Two threads[4][5] posted in /tv/ on that day received over 240 and over 80 replies, respectively (screenshots shown below).

Later on the same day, Twitter[6] user @GamesNosh tweeted one of the photographs of Eilish, writing "in 10 months Billie Eilish has developed a mid-30's wine mom body," with the tweet gaining over 930 retweets, 12,400 quotes, 8,800 likes and 7,300 replies in three days (tweet shown below).

The tweet prompted viral reaction on Twitter, with multiple users making posts in defense of Eilish and accusing @GamesNosh of body shaming. For example, an October 13th, 2020, tweet by Twitter[7] user @jodieporl received over 30,200 retweets and 285,800 likes in two days (shown below, left). A same-day tweet[8] by user @jessiepaege received over 6,800 retweets and 44,600 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

In the following days, the controversy was covered by a number of media outlets.

Additionally, the photographs of Billie Eilish in the tank top have been a subject of memes and humorous photoshops. For example, on October 12th, 2020, Facebook page Game of Thrones Titposting[11] posted a meme based on the photograph. A repost of the meme in Game of Thrones Shameposting[12] received over 2,500 reactions and 1,000 comments in three days. On October 15th, 2020, Twitter[13] page eternal classic reposted an Imagine Being Pablo meme based on the photograph made by an unknown user, with the post gaining 160 likes.

The sheer hypocrisy of people adoring "thicc" drawings of girls, and then shaming any woman that isn't a toothpick is not lost on me.

Of course, they may not be one and the same group, but still food for thought. Personally I think she looks attractive here.
