The meme was popularized on X / Twitter in December 2024 after user @tatbaee posted the image alongside the caption, "when he tells me i’m the worse woman’s he’s ever met," inspiring user @MissSassbox to ask for a Black version, resulting in numerous examples over the following days. The trend also inspired discourse about how there should be a Black version of Family Guy, with many claiming that The Cleveland Show essentially filled that role. The original screenshot comes from American Dad season 8 episode 3, "Can I Be Frank (With You)."

On December 4th, 2024, X^[1] user @tatbaee posted a screenshot of Francine Smith holding two shot glasses in the air and smiling, writing, "when he tells me i’m the worse woman’s he’s ever met," garnering over 52,000 likes and 12,000 reposts in two days. The screenshot comes from American Dad season 8 episode 3, "Can I Be Frank (With You)."^[2]

Later that day, X^[3] user @MissSassbox quote-reposted @tatbaee, writing, "is there anybody who can make this a Black woman so we can overuse this perfect meme," garnering over 90,000 likes and 4,100 reposts in two days.

About 13 minutes later, X^[4] user @steventphoto posted a photoshop of the image that represents Francine as a Black woman, writing, "per your request here is updated version for your use," garnering over 36,000 likes in the same span of time. This is the earliest known edit of the image to make Francine Black.

Spread

Numerous edits of the image depicting Francine as a Black woman were uploaded to X over the following days, many using the same caption, "when he tells me i’m the worse woman’s he’s ever met." For example, on December 4th, 2024, X^[5] user @th3lejin posted a version of the meme that gained over 123,000 likes in two days.

On December 5th, X^[6] user @artbyenrii posted an edit of the image depicting Francine as a Black woman with golden bracelets and a black dress, garnering over 74,000 likes in a day.

Later that day, X^[7] user @ArteiceTB posted a version of the meme basing the edit on an actual episode where Francine appears as a Black woman. The image was reposted to the /r/AmericanDad^[8] subreddit that day, garnering over 1,900 upvotes in a day.

That same day, X^[9] user @LoKeiTv posted a collection of the edits, writing, "We definitely need a black @FamilyGuyonFOX I feel like I fit every part 😂," garnering over 2,000 likes in a day. Later that day, X^[10] user @VeginaDentata responded to the post, writing, "It was called The Cleveland show and yall didn't even watch it 😭," garnering over 317,000 likes in a day.

On December 6th, X^[11] user @MikeBeLike posted an image of Donna from The Cleveland Show writing, "Donna watching y’all edit that picture of Francine like…," garnering over 137,000 likes in under a day.
